Stony Brook U Nursing Basic BSN Fall 2014 Applicants!

Published

Hey everyone! I'm in the middle of my prerequisites for the nursing program at Stony to apply for admission next fall! Just wanted to reach out and say hey to anyone else in the same shoes! Where else are you all applying?

SBU is obviously my first choice, but I'm also applying to NYU, Adelphi, Molloy, I might apply to York and Lehman, and I might apply to LIU Brooklyn. I would apply to Hunter, but I don't want to transfer for the spring only to be waitlisted (or rejected!) for one of their 100 seats.

I'm currently in my first year of the 2 yr BBP. We didn't have interviews with our application process, ....as you know this is new, ...but we found out about acceptance, rejection and wait listing at the very end of April last year. I hope for those who they won't call for an interview, they will at least email you an "I regret to inform you letter" ... It's only proper etiquette. Similarly, for those still waiting to hear, call the SON!! Don't be timid! Good luck all!

dont worry guys, just because you didnt get an interview yet doesnt mean you wont get one at all. they send them out in waves. and they def dont only look at gpa.. i know this for a fact because i got into the 1 year and i am just barely breaking a 3.0

Thanks for the positivity! The interviews came in waves for the accelerated program?

He didnt't tell us that so im not sure  And they definitely just dont look at gpa, they look at everything everything else too

If you read this years accelerated forum.. youll see that they definitely did come in waves. I would assume they are doing the same thing for the 2 year

i still haven't heard anything. i think theyre waiting to see how many people reject their acceptances so they can offer spots to people who were potentially wait listed or rejected. At this point no news is good news, i hope enough people choose to go elsewhere so we can all get in

Im at Stony Brook now for a Bachelors in Health Science (backup in case I don't get into the program), my advisor put me in the Introduction to Nursing Class with Dr. Philip Tarantino-- who is on the board of admissions for the Basic BSN nursing program. He said in class two weeks ago that they are interviewing 180 students so they can actually meet the students instead of just basing it off a piece of paper.

Wow, 180 students are being interviewed? Does anyone know how many on average get accepted?

The class accepted last year was 79 students and that was the largest class yet.

Wow, so only about 43% of people being interviewed will be accepted. That figure didn't help my nervousness. Thank you for the information.

That helps mine! I interviewed for the 1-year and they interviewed somewhere around 300-400 I think. For like 80 spots. I'm LOVING these odds lol

Kidding. Still extremely nervous.

Well, compared to that, yes the odds are good. Good luck!

Anyone hear anything new?
