Stony Brook Basic BSN Class of 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hey Everyone,

Now that the deadline for the class of 2018 Basic BSN program at Stony Brook University is coming up, I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread to and for all applicants. I hope there isn't already a thread made already because I searched thoroughly but could not find one. If you have any questions or just want to talk feel free to comment. Best of luck to all of you on your applications!

Of the 71 credits we are required to take, 2 credits are listed under electives. Is that a nursing elective at Stony Brook or can we use another class we have previously taken at another college to satisfy this 2 credit elective requirement?

First semester you guys have it easy, clinicals are from 7- about 2/3 depending on faculty and only run for half a semester,2nd semester and moving forward, you will alternate between classes through out the semester and during 3rd semester the clinicals last 10-12 hours. As far as the 2 credits is concerned, you will have the opportunity to do a Nursing internship at SBU (highly recommended), you apply and people get picked randomly and that fulfills your 2 credits, if you dont get that, you can take a online class, either in the summer or winter but its gotta be done before your last semester. And, generally outside classes do not fulfill that requirement but its worth it to talk to the pogram director later once you meet her to discuss your concern.

Hey all! I am am senior in the BBP program. If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)

Who's this??? Lol^^^

I can start with a question, what's the "BBP program"?

I believe it stands for "Basic Baccalaureate Program".

Has anyone received the dates for orientation? And when are we supposed to make or get our schedules?

I spoke to the admissions office and they said late August for orientation and that an email will go out over the summer for that. They said we'd be getting our schedules some time in August as well.

On a side note, I'm currently a SBU student and there have been issues with microbio lab. Currently waitlisted for the one in the summer (currently taking the lecture portion) but I'm afraid I won't get in. I've heard rumors that the SoN let the lab portion slide last year if you were accepted and hadn't taken it yet. Does anyone know anything about that?

Curious - for those accepted, where does/did everyone go to school? I graduated from Stony Brook but took some prereqs at SCCC. Wondering how many familiar faces I'll see.

went to Suffolk for 3 semesters, got my AA in psych, transferred to sbu and got my BA in psych and during that time I realized research wasn't for me after being a research assistant...wanted to help patients more directly. Took my nursing prereqs at suffolk again, so i will probably recognize you from somewhere lol

Does Med Math and/or Role Development last the entire semester? And if not, do all the students in the program have class the same days/times? Or does half the program attend class for the first half of the semester and the other half the second half of the semester for the 1 or 2 credit classes? Thank you.
