Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2018

Published

Hello everyone, I'm currently in the Stony Brook accelerated (1 year) program and here to help with questions you might have. It was useful for me to look at the thread from last year when I was applying so I wanted to get one started for all of you. Feel free to post questions or message me. I hope this is helpful.

Hi Guys,

I will be joining you in this years program. I have some experience with the program and Stony Brook so far so I can recommend that you all should enjoy your time/life now before school starts. It will take you on a journey so be prepared. You have to get your physical, insurance etc before June, whenever the program starts. But enjoy your life and brush up on A/P for Pathophysiology, learn your best method of studying,Think about purchasing a stethoscope and or tape recorder for June, watch videos to help you learn best practices for nursing school, don't harass the office of Admissions . Any questions about anything reach out

Yes, you can accept and pay the deposit. If you decide not to go eventually the spot will be given to someone on the waitlist.

If we have our own health insurance, do we still need to buy it through the school?

@KCnursing0593 and felixdacat, thank you for answering my questions. I am really excited to start this program and looking forward to meeting everyone.

I currently live in Queens, but I plan on moving out to Long Island for the duration of the program. Anyone has good advice on where to look for apartments?

No but you must provide proof of insurance in solar to waive it. It will save you a good amount of money if you have your own insurance

Does anyone know around when we will hear back about the FAFSA and Financial Aid? I know we don't get grants or whatever but I wanna know about the Stafford Loans. Does anyone know when we are supposed to hear about that?

Sometime around April - June you will hear about financial aid and loans. I believe many get like $12,000 something which can be used for fall and summer excluding health insurance etc. I am not sure about Spring as yet.

Hi everyone, I'm a sophomore in college and planning on applying to Stony Brook's nursing program. I was just wondering if Stony requires a certain number of volunteer/health related experience hours? they don't seem to mention it on the program's requirements page. Thanks!

Thanks .shad! Anyone manage to pay that deposit yet? I tried to get it going but it still doesn't seem to be working in SOLAR. If I can't do it on my own today I guess I'll give them a call.

Specializes in Obstetric Acute/Newborn Nursery.

I called today. They said there's a glitch on SOLAR and we'll just have to wait until they fix it. But you can call the health science student services to confirm that you've accepted their offer of admission.

Hope this helps!

Yeah, I called about the deposit and they didn't really say anything...I'm going to wait and hope that it gets resolved soon.

Thanks for your help, everyone! I actually have one more question.. if anyone knows the answer to this lol. Does anyone know when we can start to apply for on campus housing? Or is everyone doing off campus? Is on campus offered to us?
