Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hello everyone, I'm currently in the Stony Brook accelerated (1 year) program and here to help with questions you might have. It was useful for me to look at the thread from last year when I was applying so I wanted to get one started for all of you. Feel free to post questions or message me. I hope this is helpful.

Congratulations to everyone that got in. I wanted to know if anyone was able to pay their 150$ deposit? I've accepted my admission, but can't seem to figure out how to pay the deposit.

Congrats to everyone who was accepted! I was placed on the wait list today and was trying to remember the statistic that was shared during my interview about how many were wait listed last year/how many were offered seats. Does anyone remember discussing this?

Thanks!

I can't pay mine either! SOLAR is so glitchy sometimes. Has anyone called about this?

I called today and they said that sometimes it takes a while for SOLAR to completely update. They said if you can't pay the deposit by tomorrow afternoon give them a call.

Yeah I had the same issue with the deposit, does any one know about how much the program cost or how much for our year?

Does anyone know the program start date? My last pre req class literally ends the day they want the transcript. So I emailed Karen Allard and she said she would just need to have the transcript in her hands by the first day of classes which is usually early June and not to worry. Does anyone know around when in June?? Cause I'm so worried my transcript won't make it in time.

Last year it started June 13th it said on the academic calendar not sure this year!

Congratulation to all the applicants I can't wait to work with you all during this intense 12 months. @np2020 the program is three semesters long but Karen said the program was about 16-17k total with lab fees and everything and btw we all need to have our own which they will be providing a list of recommendations it's not expensive at all maybe 25 dollars for the year because they anticipate us not really touching patients. So not to worry there. I'm going to be creating a facebook group for those of you that would like to join. Like last years class we should all do some social events together we are going to be working very closely together with a lot of studying time. We might as well make some friends before it all happens so we can talk to each other and ask for help team based learning is HUGE at stony brook they would love to see us all working together so comfortably so fast. I'll post a long here when I create the group. See you all soon! Can't wait to meet you all!

Hey guys, I'm new to this thread and received my acceptance on Tuesday, I cannot wait to get started! I know others have said they haven't been able to pay the deposit yet and each time I call they just tell me to wait but it is still not popping up for me and I am freaking out lol. Has anyone been able to pay yet?

haven't been able to pay yet either some information comes up when I click on it but I still can't pay

I'm in the current accelerated class. I'm here because one year ago, I had a lot of the same questions that you guys have now. There are 3 semesters for your class: summer '17, fall 17, and spring '18. Tuition really depends on your need for health insurance from the school. If you're single and need insurance, your tuition will be slightly higher than if you decline it. If you need insurance for a family, the price goes up from there. Overall, I'd say the tuition is somewhere in the range mentioned before by KCnursing.

KCnursing was also semi-right about . In 2016, it cost us $38 per year. I used NSO, but there other reputable brokers out there. My suggestion: wait until late May to purchase it because it's only good for one year. If you buy insurance too soon (you type A people out there, I'm talking to you!)... you'll need to renew it sometime throughout the school year. If you buy it in late May, your effective date will be from early June 2017 to early June 2018 (since you graduate in May, you'll still be covered). What KCnursing is WAYYYY off about is that we "don't touch patients." I can assure you that we do, and you NEED insurance for this very reason. The only reason it's so cheap is because we are students...when you're an RN, your yearly malpractice rate will be higher. For now, relax and relish in the fact that you were accepted into a competitive and great program. I love it so far, and am really excited for the next semester. Don't get it twisted though, it's TOUGH...but doable! Congrats to you all. Ohh, and...any waitlisted individuals, don't despair. A few of my classmates were waitlisted...some were even called up only a couple weeks before the program started! It's like the NY lotto..."ya never know."

disclaimer: anything I said is certainly subject to change by SBU SON...so don't hold me accountable if tuition rates go up or your class/graduation schedules change. I can only tell you what I've experienced/am experiencing.

Hi new to the thread but also recently accepted! I don't know if this helps anyone but I was able to pay my deposit because I called and paid $150 to my "what do I owe" payment section in solar even though it said $0.00 due and they transferred the money for me manually to right spot. I don't know if I was only able to do this because I am currently a stony brook student but they were helpful on the phone when I called :)
