My attempt at helping those who wish to apply to the Stony Brook Accelerated (1 year) Nursing Program.
I applied to the part-time nursing program at Suffolk Ammerman campus that starts in the Fall semester. I got accepted there and started the following Fall. I only got one semester out of the program before I got into Stony Brook, but I think it definitely helped me with the accelerated program in the beginning!!
Does anyone have any idea on how much weight the interview is verses the writing and math.. Just wondering what if I didn't do as well in the interview and Aced the writing and math or vice versa I did great on the interview and average on the writing and math ? How do they grade us and pick one over the other ?
Hi Everyone! I'm currently in the 1 year accelerated program and am here to answer any questions you may have! Our class got a lot of tips, suggestions, advice, and most importantly SUPPORT from the 1 year accelerated class before us so I would like to return the favor because when I was in your position last year I was extremely clueless and had questions about everything!!! For starters, I did not get accepted the first time around 2 years ago even though I did get an interview, but I tried again a year later, got another interview opportunity, and here I am! Stay positive and confident in yourself and you can do anything! For our class, I interviewed November 7th last year, and decisions for the majority of us were sent out January 9th! I know the vets got admitted a little earlier, but for the rest of us it was January. Here to help :)

Was there anything that you remember doing different the second time around? Did you revise your essay or prepare differently for the interview?
I completely changed my personal essay in the application to be more vulnerable and let it all out. For the interview I tried to prepare by writing down all the questions I thought they could possibly ask but they asked NONE of the questions I had prepared, so all my answers were absolutely on a whim.
I met with panel first, but that was just my group. I don't think it would make a difference either way, if you have the written first or second.
I can say that everyone who interviewed in my group seemed to be solid candidates and it must be difficult for admissions to choose. They told us that SBU got about 800 applicants for the one year, they interview about 175, and they take 80. In other words if you interview, you have about a 1 in 2 chance,.. not bad.
Thanks! I actually had my interview today, panel first then math/writing. The faculty we met with actually told us 120-140 people were invited for interviews while Ms. Kavazanjian said it was 175. I'm not sure which is accurate. She also told us that Friday would be the last day for interviews and that they had been going on for 3 weeks (including this week). You're right about the rest of the candidates but the fact that we all had the opportunity to interview put everyone on the same playing field. I wish everyone the best of luck, but for now I'll put it on the back burner and whatever happens happens :)
