Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2017

Published

My attempt at helping those who wish to apply to the Stony Brook Accelerated (1 year) Nursing Program.

Thank you so much for the information!! So they've already finished sending invites for interviews? Your post makes me kind of excited to go! I'm so glad you had a great experience and good luck!! Now to wait until they make decisions lol.

awesome!! So glad it went well for you. Should I study for the math exam or is pretty basic? So excited for tomorrow!

Were their questions tricky? I'm still so nervous !

I'm not sure if they finished inviting people for interviews but they're doing interviews for 3 weeks; today was the first day. The math exam is simple! Just brush up on the topics they mentioned in the email and you'll do fine :)

Hey @BeeUps, I was just curious to know what your school schedule is like. The administration mentioned something about clinicals being on the weekends? If so, what does your week look like?

Congratulations to all of the folks who have been invited for interviews! I am sure you will do extremely well, as you are clearly very qualified candidates whose passion, drive, and intelligence came through very clearly. I am glad to hear that it is going well and wish you all luck with your admission.

I have not heard back and am feeling very discouraged. While I understand the school is extremely competitive, I really thought my application was as well. Certainly enough to get through the "first round," so to speak. Though I ran up to the wire on the deadline due to the aforementioned LOR, everything ended up being submitted before the due date. Also, are candidates from other states supposed to plan travel/take off work and other obligations/skip school/internships with less than three weeks notice to come in for an interview? Maybe I am missing something here. Seems it would be near impossible for international students too...

I understand they've selected the candidates for the interviews, so they must already know who is being rejected. Does anyone know what applicants can expect to hear back if the decision is negative? I assumed several months, but perhaps I am wrong. I am tempted to check in with the school for clarification, but do not want to be a pest. I am sure they are inundated with calls and emails this time of year.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I was told they're hoping to send out admissions decisions by December. Calling the school shows initiative, not that you're being a pest. Plus, it's better to get clarification directly from the Nursing Dept than be left wondering or speculating. I hope you get the answers you're looking for.

I know in previous years, when people are from out of state, they do Skype interviews. I believe they are pretty accommodating when it comes to people who aren't "local."

Hey everyone! I have a friend that is in the Accelerated BSN program this year who is a veteran. She said that the veterans receive their interviews first then everyone else. Is this true for the person who had their interview today?

Question for BeeUps they told us we would have a decision by the holidays does it really take that long for you? I had my interview already.

Quick update: I contacted the Nursing department and was told they expect to continue interviews and application review throughout December for the one-year ABSN. That's all they could confirm, which I completely understand. Fingers crossed over here...

Hi !

thank you so much for the reassurance ! I am going in for my interview today and I am so terrified.... Practicing my math but really don't know what to expect ... Was it multiple choice? What type of interview questions were asked? Was it a group interview?
