Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2017

Published

My attempt at helping those who wish to apply to the Stony Brook Accelerated (1 year) Nursing Program.

So far SUNY Brockport and Binghamton but I doubt my Bing app will be considered because I completely forgot about supplemental documents (I'll be uploading them anyway you never know) :(((( but I'm still going to apply to SBs 2yr program if it doesn't happen with the accelerated. I'm not letting it go so easy lol. NJCU is also on my list as well as some private schools but I'll wait to see what happens before applying.

You're guaranteed to get into at least one of those program. I was also considering SBS 2 year program LOL I have the same mentality as you!

Well I hope so! I'll be happy (and honored) in either program. I was so hung up on wanting to get a BS in nursing as quickly as possible because I didn't want to waste any more time but I realized it's OK as long as I get it done! It won't be as hectic in the basic BS program and I'll definitely be taking on less debt as there's a possibility for part time work. The more I think about it the more nervous I get but I heard that if your dreams don't scare you they're not big enough lol.

LOL I would be happy in any program as well. I completely understand. My dreams of becoming a nurse have indeed been a long time coming.I currently go to Hunter and their Nursing Program is so cut throat and competitive people with 3.8 GPA's are being turned away. I was thinking the same about the basic program because the accelerated program will be so incredibly intense. I have no doubt that you will reach all your goals and aspirations. As a little added tidbit, my mom always says "whatever is meant to be yours will always find its way to you". In other words, you got this!

Aww I love that quote! And heyyy I graduated from Hunter!! I know it's so crazy, I couldn't apply to Hunter or Lehman because I had to retake Chem. But I heard the same professor I had is still teaching the course smh! When I was there one of my classmates was stressed about how difficult it was to get in, I saw her recently and she wound up completely changing her major. Cutthroat indeed!

What a coincidence. Go Hawks!! LOL

Ugh I so hate that about the CUNY Nursing system. I think its so silly how you have to apply to the school, get in and THEN apply to nursing program after having spent at least a semester there. It is so limiting, but I guess it makes it easier for the staff to make selections for the program. I love the flexibility of admissions with SUNYs.

Hello my fellow aspiring nurses! I have also applied for the Accelerated Program and had my interview Oct. 19th. I remember them saying they were hoping to have responses out before the holidays. Now that it's December I'm starting to get anxious! Has anyone called to see if there's a tentative date?

Someone told me that they called and were told that they would be dropped as a candidate if they asked again, so just sit back and relax. Read a book, watch some tv, engage in new hobbies, focus on your current studies if you're still in school, go out with some friends - if they ask if you heard back - tell them you don't even want to think about it and if they ask again you may consider dropping them as friends (only kidding). Everyone is waiting so just take a chill pill and enjoy the ride. Once one person hears back, they will be bound to brag on here lol. If you guys really are anxious, you can form a "check solar every minute group." So for interested parties, you would find a place to hang out all day, maybe someone's house/apartment/coffee shop. Once a place is found, everyone is then invited and forced to be logged onto Solar all day. You guys can talk about the interviews, your own credentials, your experience, etc. The leader of the group can vouch to make food/bring food/assign everyone to a certain duty (food/drink duty). While you guys talk about the whole experience, one person of the group would simply hit the refresh button on the Solar page until something changed. However, as a control, another person should do the same thing until that person sees any changes. Once a change arises -> 1 number changes, a period disappears, or someone's name is crossed out and written in place "DENIED," then the fun begins. As a group you would either investigate your own solar account or give pity/feel sorrow for the person who got denied. If someone got accepted, you will persuade them not to accept it and say bad things about the program until they agree with your position, then once that occurs, more slots open for offers increasing your chances of getting accepted.

Lol, I hope you enjoyed that.

lol good one bro...I am def guilty of check solar at least 3-5 times a day lately.

Woah! I was just curious since we're all in the same boat, although I do appreciate your sarcasm and humor. I'll keep my nervousness to myself from now on haha ;)

When I went for my interview I met a girl who said she was currently in the program. She said if you receive a grade below a 74 on any exam you are automatically dropped from the program, has anyone else heard about what seems like a very harsh and unforgiving policy?

That IS very harsh [emoji15]

Feel free to share nervousness here, new posts give us compulsive checkers something to do! as per previous calculations letters could be going out tomorrow!
