Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2015

U.S.A. New York

It's almost september, which means people are starting to get their applications for nursing together real soon. I'm currently in the 1-yr nursing program here at Stony Brook. A previous alum started the 2014 thread for us, so I figured I do the same. Feel free to ask questions or message me with them. Good luck to everyone applying! :)

This is an old post and I'm just replying, but I concur. I am a nurse aide and I respect my nurses because they are willing to help. I have an undergrad and 2 Masters. It takes a special person to be a nurse. Most people have dignity and wouldn't want someone cleaning there bottom if they could do it themselves. I could go on but I'll stop, clearly your rejection is Valid!?

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.
Also, is it true that if you dont apply by the october deadline you have to wait a whole year before trying again? ... That might be a silly question, I'm only asking because my college now always extends their deadlines.

Yes, this is exactly correct. Applications are due only in Oct. The accelerated program only starts in June and ends the following June. There is no other time to start. Stony Brook's program is in high demand, they dont make exceptions like extending application deadlines. Over 600 applicants vie for about 80 seats, they really have no reason to extend.

I am planning on applying to SBU for the accelerated nursing program next summer. What is the average GPA that they look for when applying?

There is no magic number. They will accept you whether you have a 4.0 or a 3.0, I know this because my class had GPAs that spanned this range, and I would not be surprised if there were one or two below that. What matters is that you demonstrate the potential to succeed in their program through your essay and your interview (the latter which did not exist when I applied). At Stony Brook, they look beyond grades in their applicants, and when you look at you classmates this is plainly obvious.

Does Anyone know when the application process opens?

Thanks!

Jenster3, I think it's already open. Stony Brook is one of a couple programs I'm applying to, but I'm pretty sure I've been working on their online application.

Nope, the Stony Brook application is available after 9/1 (per their website). My mistake. The applications all start to look the same after a while, y'know?

Hi everyone, I just submitted my online application for Stony Brook Accelerated Program 2015. Does anyone know how long before I find out if I'm accepted? Good luck to everyone applying.

They keep sending out acceptances earlier and earlier! Two years ago we found out in early January and last year the found out in Decemberish. Just an FYI a lot of people get in off the wait list and / or don't hear anything and are accepted as late as May and June! But hopefully you'll hear something before then. The waiting is tough! Just keep busy with whatever else you have going on. It also doesn't hurt to have a few backups :)

Wow, @TheArchitect! I'm still slowly entering info a little at a time in the online application and mulling over my essay! I've got the rest of my ducks in a row, but scanning stuff takes me forever, and I like to overthink everything I write and then edit it by sitting on it for a week or so before I change anything.

Is Stony Brook the only program you're considering?

hi @Rosewater i started the online application the first week in August. All of references responded very fast and the essay was fairly easy.I hired a professional editor to check over my punctuation and grammar. Everything else was a breeze but before I submitted my application I checked everything 5x and all seemed well.

I'm applying to NCC and SCC also. and i recently took my Teas and scored proficient which I'm praying is good enough to get me in.

I'm anticipating at least 1 out of these 3 schools will accept me but I'm staying optimistic that i will get into all 3 lol.

I sincerely hope you all get into Stony Brook, not only because I am biased :D but because I dont really know what the job prospects are like in 2014 for nursing students graduating from SCC and NCC with associates degrees. At least I know the Stony Brook BSNs have an easier time getting jobs. Just a heads up!
