It's almost september, which means people are starting to get their applications for nursing together real soon. I'm currently in the 1-yr nursing program here at Stony Brook. A previous alum started the 2014 thread for us, so I figured I do the same. Feel free to ask questions or message me with them. Good luck to everyone applying! :)
Hi NesSa87 - yes, I'm going into the SBU program this year. It's a little hard to quantify my application strengths, but, for example, I have a previous B.A. from a top liberal-arts school (in 2005), interesting and varied customer-service work experience, great GPA in pre-reqs, meaningful reference letters (from a chem prof, an English 101 prof [!], and a personal reference who is a retired nurse and knows me extremely well), and an essay that talked about my passion for social and reproductive justice and how I'd incorporate that passion into a nursing career. It's really all about the "whole package." Make yourself look interesting!
Hi Everyone :) ... I'm very new to this so hopefully I am doing this right haha :). Anyway.. I want to apply to Stony Brook for the ABSN program for next summer. The application deadline is 10/9/14.. I was looking at the requirements and it says that I need to have completed 3 of the science pre-reqs. I completed AP1 and AP2.. as well as developmental psych. Does that count? I am also taking microbiology, chem, and statistics in the fall, but they wont be done (of course) by October. Please let me know.. I really want to try to get in as soon as possible.
Btw I spent most of the morning reading your posts. So glad I found this site... it seems really helpful! :)

Its best to just call them and ask.
Its usually not an issue if you need a class, and havent finished it but are enrolled in it
IE I was in the 2 year program recently, and I started in September.
I had to take like psych, sociology, and some other funky class that summer (june/july/august)
Just talk to them and theyll make everything clear, as well as what classes fit for what requirements.
Hi everyone! i applied twice to ASBN 2008 and 2011. i got rejected both time. I think is because my gpa. I completed an AAS degeree from a community College with a 2.8 gpa. I compled at Stony Brook University a BS degeree in Respiratory Therapy with a 3.1 gpa. But, my prereqs are not good: Human Gross Anatomy B-, Physiology B, Chem B, Statist B+, ENG B, Micro C+. ect... I have been a Resp Therapist for about 6yrs, i work at two major Hospitals in Long Island. I worked at a long tern care, i work at a rehabilitation center. I have good experience. I dont know if i have to retake Anatomy, Phys, Micro all over again to try to get a better grade. I plan to repply again, this time i will apply at the 2yrs also. i just want to know what you guys think.

Thanks for the advice. I probably should have applied to SBU first, and then Molloy. I honestly didn't think I had a shot at SBU. Are you going into the program this year? If you are, would you mind sharing the kinds of things you feel helped you get in? (i.e. work/life experience, GPA, references)
