Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013

U.S.A. New York

Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-)):yeah:

If anyone who will be in the program next year is interested, I made a facebook page (I'm a high school teacher and it's Regents week, so I have a lot of extra time this week). The name of the group is Stony Brook Accelerated Nursing Class of 2013. I thought it'd be nice to meet future classmates :-)

Is that the group that shows with admins Gary and Kerry? that one has 62 members already so i dont think that is the one you created but i dont see any others.

I am so glad you made the group Jennyfur! I requested to join, I found a group with only 2 groups members currently. My name is Allyson so you know whose requesting! Lol

I think I just found it as well. My name is Emerson.

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

Jennyfur, you have quite an impressive portfolio, I must say! You will get a chance to repeat it at orientation for everyone in your class (it is one of the first things you all 64 do on that first day).

Paco thank you SO much for taking time to answer my questions, I appreciate it and take your time! I totally understand!

What date did you officially start the program? How has the program been for you so far?

Our first day was on June 28th which was orientation. The orientation was about 2 full days on 28th and 29th, then the next two days thereafter were computer training days for the school of nursing and for the hospital system, respectively (actually those training days are half-days). Classes began the following week! The program is INTENSE! Yes, there are points in the program where you can find downtime, but they are few and far between. Professors are really great. But as senioritis goes, I am already in the thick of it and ready to finish up LOL!

I know someone mentioned St. Joseph's College on here as I was reading. Someone in my class is an alum of that school, probably someone else is too but not too sure. Just in case you were concerned that your school becomes an automatic nay for the program ... not so! Someone clearly made it in! :)

Hi Jennyfur,

I just sent a request to be in the facebook group, my name is Stephanie, hope you got it! Looking forward to meeting you all :)

Fingers Crossed for all of you still waiting to hear back! Stay positive!

Thanks Paco for all of your information. Have you found that you are able to manage it? I am very organized, but of course still nervous! I think most of us have the worry about how intense it will be.

I know exactly how you feel, and your feelings are normal. I am managing well. The summer semester is not that bad (actually it is a little, but it's nothing like the fall and I am starting to see the spring is a tad intense too, but definitely on the down-slope). You get used to it, and your classmates will be a BIG help getting through it with you. Just make sure you manage your time well. For example, I read for tomorrow's lectures already, and already have my weekend study plan in place. There are some major projects along the way (like papers and presentations in addition to preparing for tests), and I would advise not to procrastinate on those! I slacked on the writing of one of my management plans last semester and I wrote it all in the span of 2 days (about 20 pages! Including research). And by some miracle of God I aced it :D ... I DO NOT recommend doing that, LOL! Learn from my insanity please!

I still have 3 months of classes, 1 month of capstone, and 2 weeks of community health clinical remaining in this program, and by no means feel "safe" yet ... I still have much work ahead of me. But as odd as it sounds, I enjoy coming on here to relieve my stress every so often! I give off a calm demeanor in person, but there are times inside when I am like [censored censored censored]!!!!! I think that is what will make me a good nurse, I don't freak out easily, at least on the outside.

They really weren't kidding when they said @ orientation that the program is going to go fast, here it is end of January already! It's flying!

Good Evening guys,

I also applied and haven't heard back yet. I just happened to Google the program in hopes of finding some reassurance online as to what the "silence" means and stumbled on this forum. Your comments are really reassuring and its really helpful knowing I'm not alone...Congratulations to everyone that has been accepted and the best of luck to the few of us still waiting.

I haven't been on here in a while and now I'm really nervous after reading about the rejections and acceptances. I didn't get a new tab or an email. The wait continues.........

Paco-that's good to hear! I am sure it will go by fast! Did you have classes everyday in the summer? What about fall/spring?

Summer: classes are Mon-Thurs all day, clinical on one of other 3 days. Summer clinical: Fundamentals. Fall and Spring: Mon/Wed/Fri lectures generally, clinical days possible on all others. Fall clinicals: Psych, OB/Peds (these 2 are half-semester each). Spring clinicals: Adult Health, Community Health done after graduation.

Those of you who are talking about living on campus: I highly recommend NOT doing that!! I live off campus and a) it's A LOT cheaper (as in half the price cheaper) b) it is away from the school/hospital, which trust me you will see enough of. Living on campus means walking to clinicals in the summer, and if it's anything like the last summer, you will be dripping by the time you get there in the morning. And working a 12 hour clinical after that is not a lot of fun. :p Also living on campus means a lot of eating on campus. The food is not the worst, but it is VERY expensive. I also know people living on campus who have complained about bug infestations and trouble sleeping due to other students not sharing our crazy schedule. Trust me, you will be wanting sleep before clinicals, and having to deal with noisy neighbors is very frustrating.

I actually contacted people through last years facebook group, we found a place in the area really close, and it was a great decision.
