Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013

U.S.A. New York

Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-)):yeah:

I'm going to guess that they may have not sent out any acceptances or put anyone on the waiting list yet. I feel like if they did, there would have been at least one person on this forum that would've heard they got in (unless everyone that was accepted doesn't stalk this website like a crazy person!) Good luck to everyone waiting!

Specializes in ICU / PCU / Telemetry / Oncology.

I am having flashbacks ... ... Perhaps I should go study some more :D

Keeping my fingers crossed for all of you waiting at the edge of your seats!! I will check in later, hopefully there will be lots of good news.

For those of you that did not get in, I hope the following will be a source of inspiration for you. I posted this almost a year ago about a month after I was accepted to SBU (though at the time I had not yet decided to go here yet):

For those of you who have not heard yet, don't freak out! Last year rejections went out before acceptances. I remember seeing a bunch of people talking on here about getting a rejection, and I was going through the same panic because I hadn't heard yet. Hang in there and wait just a little longer!

Do you remember how long after you heard?

Also, do you think it's safe to say that if you haven't received a rejection letter that you're either accepted or waitlisted?

Hi all, I was rejected as well. Put all my eggs in one basket, so now I am looking at other options. I still have some more investigating to do. I am applying to Adelphi as a transfer student and Molloy as a second degree student. NCC is tough to get into because of sheer numbers, and I am not too excited about taking a step back to get an AS, but I'll apply there as well, and maybe to Suffolk next year if need be. I live about 7 minutes away from SBU, have two kids and childcare needs to consider, etc., so I am not excited at the prospect of commuting west for school.

A good friend made me feel a bit better yesterday - she is a SBU graduate and current grad student, and saw that a classmate of hers from undergrad posted on FB that he was rejected. Honors college grad and student ambassador, and didn't get in.

My LoR were probably not as competitive - had one glowing reference from an old professor whom I took several classes with for my first degree (psych - I took Stat, senior Cog Dev seminar, experiential lab, and sat in on his grad seminar on Exec Function for a semester), one from a former supervisor who is now a medical resident, and one from my current boss (in a restaurant...not very helpful). My GPA is also less than ideal; I missed the drop deadline for two courses 9 years ago, received F's, repeated those courses with A's at a community college, received transfer credit when I was readmitted to the university, and could not get them off my record...that took my GPA down from a 3.6 to a 3.2. Plus my grades from my first college were mostly awful, as I was one of those 4.0, AP-track HS students who discovered freedom away from home and basically never went to class. It is what it is. I still cried after I got the e-mail though. :sniff:

I feel called to work in peds oncology or in peds palliative care, so I will do what it takes to get to that point. I am also considering applying to NCC for their radiation therapy program, to see if I can do something along those lines until the time comes that I can get on the BSN/MS track.

I honestly don't remember the time frame very well. Paco might recall better than me. I applied to a bunch of programs so I don't remember specifically when I heard from Stony Brook. I just remember there being an awkward waiting period after a lot of people on here had posted about getting emails.

I wouldn't assume anything yet! Like Paco said, they send these things out in waves, and lord only knows the "system" the administration here uses. So hang onto hope if you haven't heard, but don't assume it means you're in. It takes them a while to send all those emails/letters out.

Good luck!! Crossing my fingers for everyone who hasn't heard!

I was rejected as well so I know how you feel. I was an alumni of SBU and had a great science GPA and overall undergrad GPA of 3.2. I guess my recommendations weren't that great but who knows. The thing is we are (as well as many others) great students who would be great assets to their program, but you never know who you are up against in the application process. I was sad yesterday but I am just working my butt off today on getting out my other apps to NYU, Pace, and Concordia. I also have two kids and live within 5 minutes of SBU so it kills me to have to commute far west. Good luck to you and you WILL be a nurse someday..just a matter of where you go to school. ;)

Also good luck to all those who haven't heard anything yet..hopefully you get your acceptance letters soon!

Thanks for the encouragement! It's good to know that there are others who are in a similar situation. Just need to keep trying, right?

Sorry for the bad news guys.... The anxiety is through the roof right now!!! good luck to the rest...

I also feel called to work in peds oncology! If you want it bad enough you'll find some way to get there!

Hang in there everyone...
