Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013

U.S.A. New York

Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-)):yeah:

Thank you dear

I was hoping to get a Xmas present. Guess not. Thanks

Ok guys! It was on my way today, so I asked ... late January at the earliest! I overheard someone else there telling a visitor asking for info that over 750 people applied for next year's class.

How can they even look through that many applications if they don't weed anyone out based on GPA??? That'd take forever! It almost seems like your application could get lost among all of the others...

I could not help to notice on the website that NEW PREREQS have been added for anyone applying to the 2013 ABSN entering class (i.e., graduating class of 2014). In addition to the sciences, they will now be requiring stats and developmental psych. Good info to know if you're going to end up reapplying!

Enjoy the holidays and save your worries for next month!

600/750 have GPA greater than 3.5?

Noooo, I sincerely doubt that very much. My cumulative GPA was certainly not that high. The minimum cumulative GPA to apply is 2.80, but clearly the average of applicants is usually much higher. Just because one has a 4.00 it does not guarantee getting in. You gotta be more than brains. I personally would like to see the school start interviewing candidates on top of their applications, but that's just my opinion.

Paco, I just want to say thank you for taking time out of your ridiculous schedule to try to find out information for us! What a kind soul you have =) I'm trying to not be a lunatic about it, but I think about it everyday. Everyday! I just want to know already!! So another month, huh? Booo. I would have liked to have an interview for the program, maybe one day that will be part of the procedure. How's the semester going Paco?

ok so i feel like a creeper for answering your post 20 minutes after you wrote it :D ... it is just coincidence that i logged in when i did! anyway, i appreciate your kind words. it's just my way of paying forward the kindness of students that came before me. hopefully one day you will do the same. i know all too well how painful this wait is, as you know i did it twice. now the painful wait for graduation is what i endure now. but i know you must be thinking: please, i rather be enduring that right now, :lol2: ...

semester ends in one week, just a couple of final exams and we are done until january! no more papers, just study for finals and hesi. i can't believe i have made it this far, and the program is literally half done! this time last year i was in your shoes, waiting to hear anything --- who would have thought my life would change so much in 365 days? this program no doubt is intense, but remember it is do-able with intelligent time management and diligence! as you can see, one finds time to relax and take time for themselves (and post on allnurses, lol!). by the way, i do have good grades, in case anyone is wondering :D

i am sending good vibes to you all! i am looking forward to the excitement of decisions getting posted on here.

that reminds me: while you're all waiting for those letters, i think it would be a good idea for you all to take your bls class now, which is the cpr course for health care professionals. get that out of the way now and it is one less thing to do later (because one you get accepted, you will have many things to complete before orientation: physicals, immunizations, titers, student , etc ... and this bls thing). you have to do it anyway for any school you attend and it is good for 2 years. remember, it must be through the american heart association. i took my part 1 online and i got a completion certificate which i then took to a certified instructor for my skills check (you practice and test on a dummy). then i was certified and i got my card in the mail about a week later.

for more info, go to the following link and click on either part 1 course under bls — basic life support. either one is acceptable to complete part 1, they have different learning formats (watch the video links to see what i mean) ... either way you will have to go to a skills practice and skills exam session in person to demonstrate your cpr and aed skill. i personally took the heartcode one, because it was more interactive. it was a few dollars more, but more interesting i think that the other one seems.the one you choose all depends on how well you learn.

doing this should kill some of that waiting time, huh?? :)

Guess I just had good timing! Do you at least get off a few days to enjoy the holidays!?:yeah:

I'll be off from school Dec. 17 to Jan. 3 ... but it's not a complete rest and relaxation as I have my first pharm exam on Jan. 4 (first day back!!) :uhoh3: ... not to mention the catchup work I have for path and assignments to start working on for Health Care Policy. I will keep myself busy, but at the same time I just try to think how next Christmas will be much less stressful! :) I will find time to rest and have fun, I always do!!

Paco is awesome. Always willing to help and give good advice.:dncgbby: We send YOU good vibes as you finish off this last week of finals!! To everyone else, hang in there!!!!!!!!!!! :nurse:

Fingers crossed and waiting patiently for an acceptance letter. Good luck to everyone..
