Stony Brook Accelerated BSN class of 2013

U.S.A. New York

Hey all! Just wanted to lend my support to anyone else who is applying to SB next summer! It's a grueling process :-)):yeah:

I have been trying to stay off the boards so I don't focus too much on it...I think I can get through the holidays without too much pain, but after that, I think the time will go by soooo slowly!!!

I am finishing the app for accelerated program at Adelphi, signed up for the last few prereqs for that program this spring, but hope to find out good news from SBU before starting there at end of January...

Paco- good luck finishing up the semester...thanks for all of your advice and support on here! So they are saying 750 applied for accelerated alone? If so, that is crazy, up from the 600 LY...oh boy...

Congrats chele118, that is great! You will have some amazing experience when you start the nursing program! Which unit are you working in?

Thank you! I'm so excited, I'm working in 1C, the dementia unit. Still in orientation, but I will be spending a couple of hours in the unit tomorrow. I feel so blessed. I was the only one from my class offered a full time position. :)

chele118-

Wow, that is a tough unit I would imagine...I am volunteering at SBUH in infant hearing, so I am in newborn and NICU areas...I love being in the hospital!

Good luck! Yes, it seems jobs are getting tougher to find in all areas of healthcare now...

Time goes by so fast. Before you know it.. it is Feb. Lol. Good luck everyone!

Good luck to you too! Hopefully we'll be in nursing school together next year!!

how hard to get into Adelphi?

I think it is not too difficult for the 2 year program, just have to take the pre-reqs and have over 3.0 GPA cummulative. You can not get C+ or lower in any of the pre-reqs...

For their accelerated program, the same as above, but you also have to send a personal statement and 3 letters of rec., they will have personal interviews too. It is a smaller program, I think only 32 are accepted, but not nearly as many applicants as SBU so chances are better...also cost is much higher than SBU.

Isn't the deadline for Adelphi's accelerated program November 15th? I was thinking about applying there as a backup, but didn't get my stuff together in time. It's so expensive, I'm not sure I'd be able to afford it anyways.

Annie, where did you take nutrition? I know that was one of the pre-reqs for their programs and I was unable to find a class comparable anywhere but there. Maybe Ill apply to their two year programs as another backup.

For all those wondering about interviews, SBU used to conduct them. I guess when 700 people started applying it became too time consuming for them. At the info session I went to last year, the person who spoke to us said that he would love to have the interviews back. As we all know, some people look great on paper but are totally different in person. I personally would like to have them interview people again. I know it would have given myself and others a chance to stand out especially with the program being so competitive but for now I guess we just have to be confident that we put our best foot forward. Hope everyone is doing well and not going too crazy :)

I read Paco69's comments that they added statistics and dev. psy on for the 2014 class. When I spoke to Dr. T back in April- he mentioned they were going to add that and then Ms. Coppola added that they found that alot of people did not know dev. psy stuff when it came to the clinicals for the psych. I am sure most of us have taken those for other schools (back-ups) so it is not such a big deal i think.

Did any of you apply to Columbia cuz I did for the early decision...a little irritated because when I asked them for the difference in tell you date, they said early decision was mid January and regular decision is mid to late February. Get an email saying they will have early decision this week! Kinda messed up as I applied for the early decision so it would coordinate with SUNY telling us date...ugh.
