Stony Brook ABSN Fall 2016 Applicants

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

Hi Everyone!

After a few months of reading various threads and articles on here I finally decided to post my own :roflmao:

I tried searching to see if someone had posted something similar to this thread but I haven't found anything. If there is however, point me in that direction!

Basically I just wanted to start a discussion for anyone who's in the process of applying to SB's ABSN program for Fall 2016 entry. If you're applying to the Basic program I'd love to hear from you also! I'm most likely applying to both to better my chances but for now my focus is the ABSN application since the deadline is quickly approaching

I'm from NYC and previously earned a BA in Media from Hunter College. Even though it'd be an hour commute driving one-way, SB is my top choice obviously because of its reputation for the science programs and of course the SUNY tuition. I was accepted for undergrad years ago (not like it really matters now) but never having been on my own and not wanting to leave my family I decided to stay in the city.

My undergrad GPA was a 3.1 and for the prereqs I have a 4.0 which I'm proud of but I also understand its not the only thing they consider which makes me that much more nervous and doubtful of whether I'll be accepted or not :sorry: Because of this, I feel like I have tremendous pressure to write an amazing statement (something I should be working on right now lol) I have some volunteer experience in a hospital but nothing out of this world, and my Rec letters are slowly coming together.

I'm also applying to Concordia, Downstate, NJCU, Wagner and NCC just to give myself more wiggle room. I only have Micro left as a prereq and will be preparing to take the TEAS and HESI for the other schools in the coming months.

I feel that as long as I stay organized I should be able to get all these apps done in a timely fashion.

How is everyone else's process going?

Hi zvolquez,

I am in a very similar situation. I have my Bachelor's degree in psych and am looking at Stony Brook's accelerated or basic program. The accelerated program is very rigorous and very difficult to get into, so I am thinking of applying to both and hoping for the accelerated! If not, hoping for the Basic. Let me know what you decide to do. Also, I would take a look at the SUNY downstate thread. I was thinking of applying but what I saw on here and my interactions with the admissions department really made me second guess applying

Km22ange,

Are you second-guessing SB or Downstate? And why? I feel like the pressure is intense, some days I'll be confident about gaining admission then others I wonder if I should even apply. But it's better to take a chance than not at all and forever wonder what could've been.

I'm applying to about 7 schools, even SUNY Brockport (where I'll definitely have to dorm) just to increase my odds.

Still procrastinating on my essay smh!

Hi guys! Have any of y'all applied yet? Has anyone started hearing about interviews?

I believe they start reviewing apps after the deadline so it's too soon for any call backs yet. I haven't submitted yet because I'm still making final edits on my statement. How about you?

I submitted my app last week! I was just curious what the time line looks like from here on out!

Good luck finishing your statement!

Thank you! I was happy with it up until last night :bored:

But from what I've gotten from previous threads and the info session at the school, they don't make decisions till Jan/Feb. someone correct me if I'm wrong.

There's another thread that has more traffic if you'd like to stay in the loop:

Hi all! Has anyone heard news yet?

Hi all, so I applied to the Basic BSN fall 2016, I am super anxious to hear back. I applied last september and didn't get in, hopefully this year I do! I saw from the thread of last september that they heard back on february 26th they got interview appointments throught their email. So we still have a little while to go.

Hi guys I also applied to the Basic program. I think the wait if going to be as hard as the essay was. But in the mean time I'm going to take Chemistry, that's my last required class. Good luck I'll also keep checking in.
