Stony Brook ABSN Class of 2022

Published

Stony Brook School of Nursing has recently opened the undergraduate application portal for the 2021 school year. I was part of an allnurses thread for their Basic BSN program last year, and the information and support from other applicants was amazing; so I jumped on creating a thread for this cycle as soon as applications became available.

Any questions or even just casual discussion about the program is more than welcome! Can’t wait to talk to all of you. ?

Been refreshing my email all morning but nothing yet!

Last year they sent out the first round of interview invitations this week (Monday after Columbus Day weekend)!

Thats what I heard as well! So possibly today? I could be wrong though because there are a lot more applicants this cycle and were under different circumstances.

how do you know we have more applicants this year? I am nervous..

Someone posted earlier about how the program director announced that there were 800+ applications as of Oct 7...but more applications doesn't necessarily mean quality applications.

I hope they offer more sits this round haha

LOL I'm not entirely sure, this is my first application cycle. Best of luck to everyone!

I reached out to administration as well and they stated at the end of this month beginning of November. Fingers crossed we hear back soon! I’m so so nervous and can’t stop thinking about it or checking my email.

I believe they normally get a little less. ABSN programs have definitely been growing in popularity each year, which means more and more applications are coming in every cycle. And with the pandemic, there has been a significant increase in people interested in a career in nursing, so from what I’ve seen on the news and heard from admissions offices, there have been a lot of inquiries into Accelerated BSN programs.

And I believe there won’t be any changes in number of seats/accepted students into many programs, including SBU, especially considering all the budget cuts colleges everywhere are facing. Also a lot goes in behind-the-scenes to increase  the number of students in a cohort that we don’t see (professors, clinical rotations, etc).

We'll hear back about interviews at the end of the month? The waiting is already making me so nervous!! ?

Oh woww, if you don't mind me asking, when did you reach out to and who did you speak with?

I don’t mind at all! I reached out by email to Pamela the Program Coordinator on Friday 10/16 and she responded pretty quickly. I just didn’t want to ask any other questions because I’m sure she gets tons of emails regarding the same concerns.

hi all! I'm renee and I'm also an applicant to sbu ABSN. believe it or not, I knew nothing about the interview LOL. are all applicants invited for an interview or just some? and for those that aren't, does that mean you have been rejected or like what happens? I'm intrigued.

and how long after the interview do we hear decisions back?

Hi Renee! All applicants who are being considered for the program are asked to interview. So if you don’t receive an email requesting that you schedule a date to interview by around late October/early November, you can pretty much assume that you’ve been rejected. I believe decisions should come out around late December/early January - definitely before the deadline for the basic baccalaureate program application.
