Hey - I'm Dave and i've been creeping on this site lately and decided i'm here so much I might as well register and make some posts.

I recently decided that I was going towards finishing my pre-reqs and go towards my BSN.

Any other prospective nurses on here from meramec?

Hey dave, I am at Meramec now too...in my last semester of pre-req's...I've applied to UMSL's traditional BSN program as well as their Accelerated BSN program for this upcoming fall or summer (depending on the program)...I'm still waiting on a letter in the mail to see if I'm in or not....applications were due back on Feb. 1st, so it's been a month now. I go to the mailbox everyday hoping a letter is in there...it's just stressing me out each day it's not here! Nice to have you join here, keep in touch!

I know exactly how you feel. I had to wait 2 months for my letter and I think it was THE most stressful time in my life (and I'm a mother of 3!!) It was the unknown and wondering if I'd be put off another year. When I saw the letter I stood at the mailbox, ripped it open, jumped up and down and came tearing into the house. I was so excited, it's a very nice feeling when you get the acceptance letter. I was on cloud nine for a week.

Aw, I hope I can be lucky enough to have that same experience. Great to hear it worked out for you!! Thanks.

I'm also a student @ Meramec. Great school; great program. If you chose to do the nursing program in its entirety @ Meramec, I don't think you'll be sorry. You'll work hard, you'll wonder sometimes why you did this to yourself (lol), but you'll have great instructors, a great support staff, wonderful clinical experiences, and a great education to begin your new career with!!

Best wishes!!!

Can somebody tell me, after graduating the RN program of nursing from Meramec, does one have any experience. I mean do those residencies in hospital count as experience?

Not sure what you're asking BGboy?

We do get a lot of experiences in clinical....you'll get a lot with your own patients, and sometimes the RNs are great about hunting down students if they know you're enthusiastic and wanting to learn/see. These clinical experiences, meaning they are a component of your education as opposed to something you participate in outside of school. They're usually 2 days a week, depending on which semester you are in. Do they count as experience? Only insofar as student clinical experience counts; everyone usually gets it in school.

If you're taking some kind of internship or job as an aide of some sort in the hospitals, they're not necessarily DIRECT RN experience, but are added experience that are useful and helpful when it comes time to start interviewing for jobs as a new grad. Additionally, your time as an employee in a hospital may count toward seniority or get you a little additional hourly rate.
