Hi all! I've been on this site for a while now, but haven't posted much. however, i feel like it'll just make me (and hopefully a few others) feel a bit better about this whole job situation if we vent it out together. i just need to complain, and i need people who understand how frustrated and hopeless i'm feeling.
i graduated from a somewhat prestigious university over a year ago, and passed my nclex without a bead of sweat. great grades, great clinical experience, killer references and resume....still can't get a job. i live in the northeast, where things are tight...but still. i work at the grocery store...THE GROCERY STORE! i paid $100,000 to get a degree so that people can supervise how i bag their eggs and talk to me like i'm stupid. i have nothing against my current job - they're great to me and it pays my bills kinda sorta for now - but it's so damn frustrating!
on top of all of this, i'm getting so sick of people constantly saying to me "but i thought we needed nurses!"...when is oprah gonna do a show about all of us who are graduating and finding a completely closed off job market? and now that a second year of nurses are finishing up, us 2008 grads are getting more and more lost.
it's not like i'm not trying - i apply to jobs nearly non stop. i call and ask for nurse managers and recruiters personally, who never answer their phones or my voicemails. i feel like a complete and total failure pretty much all of the time, and don't know what to do. i have at least 15 friends in the same boat, but none of them currently live nearby and i don't have anyone to talk to about these feelings. i cry a lot when i'm alone, but put on a big smile and just tell people i'm staying optimistic and i'm still looking etc. etc.
anyway - if you wanna chime in, please do. i know our families and friends are probably getting sick of listening to us talk about this stuff, so it feels better to talk to strangers who understand. :)
much love and keep the faith, my friends. we're gonna rise above this someday.
Hi:If it is possible relocate. I live in South Florida and I know, from looking in the paper and even at the facility I work at, RN's are in demand. Please don't give up on your dream. Do some research, find areas where your knowledge and skills will be valued. I know you probably wont make good RN money at first, but it HAS to beat working at the grocery store.
Keep looking and good luck to you.

I realize this is an older post, however, I was wondering if you could tell me what the market in S. FL was for LPN's. I currently live in Central FL and things are not very good here. Looking for work has become a full time job for me (unfortunately it is one that doesn't pay). Thanks for any information you may have.
Out of nursing school 5 months tomorrow. Still no job. No bites in over a month. Out of all the hundreds of applications and resumes and cover letters, only 3 interviews so far, and they all felt gratuitous. I went and applied for an LTC job today. In the job description it says for RNs "3 years experience required." But I applied anyway. The manager of the place is a friend of mine, but I don't know if that is worthy of over-looking my lack of experience when they want 3 years. We'll see.
I decided to improve my resume today in hopes of landing a decent job. I have spent 4 hrs on it and still is not finish. Trying to get the best resume thru tips on this website and a few others. The cost of it been done by pro is not in my budget. I swear I feel like screaming everytime someone sds "They all always need nurses, I just can't believe you haven't found a job yet" :angryfire just spend one day in my shoes

Baptist in San Antonio! I was just hired at Baptist North Central which is in a nice area. Apply to the position you want and call the recruiter. The jobs are NOT listed as "new graduate" only listed as "RN"... They have alot of positions to fill in women's services (just an fyi)
Well, ladies and gentlemen, I got hired today for the job I wanted before I graduated...pending background check and tox screen. After 5 months of waiting....and doing yard work to survive. I won't go into the whole process and what I've been doing to land a job because I'm sure we're all very well acquainted with that. I will, however, attribute it to persistence with applications and showing my face in HR about once a month. And a lot of praying.
So I won't be having to commute or move and I'll be on track to move to critical care at some point which is what I love.
Good luck to everybody still looking.

Yikes!
most definately.
I passed on a med short stay unit which was described as a mini ER b/c by the 2nd day I would have a full 5/6 patients, which granted is normal but no orientation, no one to really fall back on as it was stated they'll all be busy! ...um no thanks.
I hear you about being picky in this economy, but I gotta believe something must give soon.
For those of you going the LTC facility route and have mentioned that they will only hire RN's as supervisors, how do you get that far? Do you just apply for the supervisor postion online? Or do you get this info from calling them?
Also for a case manager, wouldn't you need some sort of experience first? I have none in healthcare.
I keep telling myself that I can hold out another month or so or even maybe to December w/o totally losing it
But I don't know. I finally heard from one hospital that they only want experience, have another one out at a rehab hospital and I have 5 applications with my desired hospital and haven't heard beans from them, but I'm trying to think positive and tell myself well atleast I didn't get a "no thanks" email back, so maybe I'm still in the running. I left a vm last week and sent an email beginning of this week, so I'd think they realize I'm very interested, so now I don't want to bug and so I sit.
This is no fun at all. May we all be blessed with jobs soon. Good luck to all!
