Hi Everyone,
I got my LVN license about a year and a half ago. I have not been able to find a job as a LVN yet because I have no experience. I applied to hundreds of positions when I graduated, and still apply weekly. I am working in the healthcare field, but not as a nurse.
I am getting really discouraged with not being able to find a job. I know as soon as I'm able to find my first job and get experience, that will get the ball rolling.
I just finished my last prerequisite and am now applying to LVN-RN programs. Im starting to get really discouraged with my situation, and am starting to wonder if I should even bother getting my RN license. Sometimes I wonder if it is worth all the effort. I am still going to have a hard time getting a job as a new RN grad. I am going to be in the exact same situation as I am now.
I am probably going to have to quit my job to go to school. My job is only open 8 hours a day, and I think school will be during work hours. I'm starting to freak out at the thought of having to quit my steady job to go to school, and have just as hard of a time finding a nursing job again as a new grad.
I really do want to be a RN more than anything, but I am feeling anxious and discouraged. Is anyone else in the same situation?

Go for your RN. Maybe by time you are done a job will open up. A friend of mine became a LPN the same time I did, she never found a job as a LPN but when she got her RN she was hired right away.
A year ago may not have been your time.

I was in the same boat as you. I haven't been able to find a job as an lvn/lpn and was on the fence if I should go back to school to get my RN, as there is a flood of many new grads here who are unable to find employment.
I spoke to my classmates who are currently employed. Each and everyone of my LVN classmates told me to continue to my RN because of the lure of the paycheck.
So here I am now, getting ready to begin my program. It will take a year, but hopefully the job market will be better by then (and the economy as well).
I'm doing it, so should you. If I was you, go get r done and get your RN
NurseLoveJoy88 & Deemonee,
Thank you for your encouragement. It makes me feel better to know other people in my situation have been able to get past this. I am going to go through with it. I have put so much effort and time into this, it is stupid to quit now.
And My boyfriend will be done with school by time I get my RN license, so we will be able to move to a area that is less saturated with new grads.

I am not in your situation though I do think we will be going full circle & the baby boomers will all be leaving their nursing jobs sooner or later..
There is going to be a shortage of nurses again, and you will certainly find employment in nursing. Do Not Be Discouraged... It is worth doing your RN

Having your RN will open up a lot more doors, as a lot of hospitals are hesitant to hire LVNs. As an LVN your main place of employment is usually a SNF of home health. As an RN, not only can you work in the same setting with a better pay rate, but you can add hospitals into the employment equation as well. The odds are just better with your RN.

I am an LPN and think often about returning to school for my RN. What gets me though are two things:
1) I hear and read that everyone wants an RN to be a BSN
2) I read on here that new RN's are having a heck of a time finding a job.
For me, I think I might wait awhile before I take out more student loans to continue my education.
But I have to admit, doubling my salary and having more options are definitely pluses!! :)
Hi,
I just wanted to give everyone a update, I finally got my first job
I'm working at a flu shot clinic and I love it! It has cheered me up and renewed my spitits. I feel like I have turned a corner, and things will start to get better. I am going to continue working towards my RN license. Thanks for the support.
way to go!!!

Congrats! Plus right now LTCs are hiring new grad RN's instead of LPNs... in a year I bet you'll have better luck!

i also have my lpn but have not been able to find a job so i understand your frustration. i am in my 4th semester of the nursing program for the second time after failing a class in 4th semester by 1%!! i do believe that it will be worth it in the long run if you just keep pushing forward. trust me i know that it's not easy.....i have been going for my rn for the last 6 years and i have struggled more than once.
just keep telling yourself that it will pay off in the end :)
good luck,
