Stethoscopes

What company makes the Ultrascope? Or is that the company name?

I have a Littman master cardiology. it was expensive but I have a slight hearing loss in one ear from my previous job so i wanted a good. All my classmates envy it but from a far. i don't let anyone use it. if i am not using it is on my hip clip. the last thing i want is my steth in someone elses ears, yuck! plus i don't want it growing legs and walking away.

Hi Everyone'
I'm a student nurse entereing my rotation on a med-surg unit and I need to buy a stethoscope. I would like to know what scopes any of you are presently using, are you happy with it and what one would you recommend?
Any help you could provide would be greatly appriecated.

I've owned 2 different Littmans throughout nursing school. As an actual RN on a med-surg floor, I've found THE BEST stethoscope to be the free black one stocked on the hospital floor. It probably costs about $5. Unless you're specializing in cardiac care, it's really the best one to use for assessment of breath/bowel sounds sounds.

For what it's worth......you get what you pay for......

I disagree. Some of the cheapies are excellent for a med-surg nurse/doc.

I agree. I swear I can hear better with the disposable isolation stethoscopes on the floor than with my Littman Cardiolgy II SE stethoscope. I'll admit this confounds me. My Littman is probably at least 5-8 years old and lays on my van floor much of the time.

Has anyone tried the "Ultrascope" stethoscope? I am about to replace my classic Littman and have heard a lot of great things about this new brand, but can find little info on it....

I recently purchased one and it is lovely. I am not a nurse so can't review it much, but it came highly recommended to me. :)

I got it on sale through redding medical plus a free student kit.

Definitely but a Littman. If money is an issue coming out of school then just buy the best you can afford...just don't waste your money of a Sprague, or others. If you get the master cardiac, be sure to read the instructions so you will know how to handle it differently for pedi population (which is simply the amount of pressure you put on the piece).

Does anyone own a DRG stethoscope?
I've been reading up on them and they seem to have better accoustics than the Littmann's, based on the tubing and eartips.

No, but I read that Bose designed the Puretone accoustics, so it ought to be good. One doctor, however, complained that because of the springs inside the tubinhg, it jumped off of his neck, whedn he bent.

I got the CII, and I'm sooo glad. It's like the difference between stereo and hi-fi.

I read on a Dr's forum that the floating diaphram on the CII is better, accoustically, than the tunable diaphram on the CIII. So......I found a refurbished CII on eBay, and bought it.

I wish I liked the Ultrascopes better. I like the customization.
