Stethoscope

Hello everyone, this is my first post and I was wondering if anyone could give me advice on a good stethoscope for clinicals. At orientation we were told not to go too cheap or too expensive. Does anyone have opinions from good experiences in clinicals? Thanks for any advice.:)

Littmann lightweight or classic II. I got mine when i started school and still have it. They aren't too expensive in my opinion. Around $50 to $70 for a basic one.

Agreed. I have a cheap one, a Littmann Lite, and a Littmann Master Classic II. The Littmanns are superior to the cheap one.

Thanks! That is right in my price range. I just found this website and am really excited to be able to talk to other people that are going through or have advice for nursing students.

Cardiology III

I'm quite happy with my littman cardiology 3. I know it's a little pricier, but it has awesome acoustics.

Littmann Classic II is a great stethoscope . It will do everything you need it to do and will last years. Unless you have a hearing problem there is no reason to go more expensive. Allheart.com is a great website to order Littmanns.

I also have a Littman classic 2. Just remember when ordering that your scrubs and shoes (Down to your underwear) are decided for you in nursing school. So choose a color that fits your style if possible. I got a pink one. And nobody else has one. Makes me feel different than the other students. :)

I would agree with the others - my Littman is amazing. It's 4 years old now (ugh - how did that happen?), and I've only changed one of the earpieces. It's held up really well especially considering it's had some abuse from me working as an assistant and as floor RN. Very easy to clean given the smooth tubing, as opposed to some (cheaper) tubings that have ridges for who knows what to get stuck and then you either pocket the gunk on there, or you put it on your neck... I would recommend getting it engraved if possible. Eventually someone will beg to borrow it, and then try to walk off with it. Makes it easier to prove it's yours if needed :)

Littmanns, whichever one of them you like best, and see if you can get yours engraved with your initials when you order it.

I would like to emphasize what others have said about the Tags, Labels, or Engravings; There totally worth it. I wish my iPhone had a "Find my StethoscopeTM" app:)

I have the 3M Littmann Cardiology. I had to use the pediatric side as a covered bell, because my pup got chew happy on it- but I guess it works better for ER now. I want a new one- but an iPad Mini got chosen instead, so that's on my wish list too(however not pink, Lol!)

I would also have to admit that the first two semesters I used that ugly dual tubed monstrosity that comes with the scissors, pin light, etc,... Until I auscultated with a friend's Litt.
