stethoscope care?

I was wondering how you all transport your stethoscopes back and forth to school? That sounds silly, but I got a nice Littmann and don't want to ruin the diaphragm. The case that came with my bp cuff isn't big enough to put it in. I do have an outside pocket on my rolling backpack, but shouldn't it be put "in" something? Just curious if I needed to find a case of some kind. I'm 11 days away from starting!!!!!

This just covers the tubing, not the diaphragm. Thanks though!

Ok, well, when I'm on my way into clinicals, it's either around my neck or in my vest pocket.

Now DON'T LAUGH......But when I used to take it to school (early on, BP practice and such) I used to put the diaphragm end into a thick cushy tube sock! The steth got stuffed into an outer backpack pocket, but it was always protected from scratches and clunks! :)

Now DON'T LAUGH......But when I used to take it to school (early on, BP practice and such) I used to put the diaphragm end into a thick cushy tube sock! The steth got stuffed into an outer backpack pocket, but it was always protected from scratches and clunks! :)

Why laugh...that sounds exactly like what i'd do :)

If you still have the box that it came in use that. My box came with pading and the box is really not the big so i can keep it in my bag along with my books.

I have kept mine in its box, transporting it that way.

I saw a stethoscope case somewhere on a website. Maybe on Steeles.com?

I wondered if people actually use cases or would that shout STUDENT GEEK;)

I had the nice littmann, and I just carried it in my bag and never had a problem. Well, it got a pen mark on it once, but that doesn't really count. I should have had a leash for it, maybe I wouldn't have left it on the unit and lost it forever... :(

My littmann is always on top of my desk - and when on person, in the side cargo-pocket of my scrubs. That pocket is dedicated to just my steth.

I need to change the tubing though - I forgot it in my car once and the heat warped it some :(

The more the steth rests on your neck, the oils from the skin can damage the tubing. Keeping it in a pocket like Roy does or getting something to cover the tubing are both good ideas.

I think a tube sock is the best alternative for protecting your stethoscope. Buying a cases is a waste of money to me.
