Steps in applying for NJ NCLEX

Published

Hi guys,

I need help in terms of applying for the nj nclex. I know some of my friends who graduated this year and have still not received their Att. I will like to take my test as soon as I graduate and will just need steps on how to do that. Is it advisable to send my application around march and when I graduate my school can send what I need? Also in the state of NJ, which is the best to apply, the online application or mail in application? Thanks

First, you are not applying for the NJ NCLEX but for a NJ Nursing license. The details in applying are listed on the board of nursing website. New Jersey Division of Consumer Affairs - Board of Nursing

There is always a backlog around graduations in December and May/June. Plus apparently the BoN was restructured this year so there were additional delays. Online may be better since you can then later log in to see the status of your application. There are delays with paper applications as they must be scanned in and the QC'd to ensure the information transcribed is accurate.

It is generally recommended to apply no sooner than a month before graduation. Nothing can be proceed until your school sends in verification of course completion/graduation.

I'd advise sending your paperwork in March. True, they can't send your ATT until your school sends in the graduation paperwork, but at least you can get your fingerprinting straightened out quickly. I sent mine in April, and I'm still waiting on my license; however, people who sent theirs in March received their fingerprinting around April and were golden when graduation came along. The state is SLOW in any case, but this will at least expedite the process a little.

My school advised us against sending our application to the BoN in early since it could just sit there and get "lost." One of my classmates told me that someone sent her application in early anyway and is still waiting on her ATT. Honestly, it seems like it's a total crapshoot as to when you get your ATT. I just got mine about 2 weeks ago but I know people who sent their applications in before me and are still waiting! One classmate was waiting for her application to be entered into the system as of 2 weeks ago (she has since been entered and is waiting for her ATT).

I did get my fingerprinting info and took care of that weeks ago.

I have friends who are still waiting on their ATT. It seems Jersey is just very slow. Thanks for all your input :)

Do you guys know if this waiting process for NJ has improved at all?

Not at all. Very slow, even when they have all of your stuff. I had to drive up to Newark to pretty much demand my ATT and license number.

Wow! When did you graduate and when did you take the NCLEX?

Pinning in april, technical graduation date in May, NCLEX in June. However, the only people I graduated with that took the NCLEX in june were the ones that drove to Newark to get their att because they were tired of waiting. Everyone who waited took it some time in July or August.
