Stealing stethescopes

Published

I am about to start Nursing School! Yaayyy! I will be crossing over to this forum in no time I hope! I was just wondering what color stethescope is most common...or which one you think I should get..I about to order my very first stethescope..this expensive littmann one...I hear stethescopes get stolen often so I want one that stands out from everyone else's...it might be harder for them to steal it then. I am not about to spend $80 to just get it stolen. There is like a list of 20 to pick from..all the littmann classic colors I guess.

and if you have any tips or pointers for starting NS I would appreciate it. How do I get on the clinical nurses good sides. Scared after reading (why nurses eat their young.' Please don't eat me!! Haha:D I just want to learn and do a good job.

I got a lilac one with my name engraved, and if I'm not using it, it stays in my pocket! (We aren't allowed to wear them around our necks, so I refrain from doing that).

Why arent you allowed to wear it around your neck?

Why arent you allowed to wear it around your neck?

Because it allows they to be more free therefore getting more germs on them by accidentally brushing patients etc. also because then patient's can pull on them or wrap them etc.

I bought a Littmann Cardiology III when I started nursing school. I had my first name, middle initial, and last name laser engraved on the bell. When I went to start my first day of work, my scope was GONE. I tried to retrace my steps but I never found it. Three years later, an oncologist that only rarely comes to our floor came to see a patient. He had my scope around his neck. He argued with me about it but I finally got my scope back. I was super happy that I had my name engraved on it.

For Christmas, I am getting the all black edition Master Cardiology with my initials engraved on the head. I cannot wait!

I got a black classic 2 with my name engraved as a gift (I would have picked a conspicuous color) reading this this I'm worried about it getting lost or stolen. How do I politely tell someone no if they ask to borrow it without sounding like a total witch? (I don't mind sharing I just don't want it to bite me in the butt)

My scope is a medium blue color. I took a sharpie and wrote my name in caps ON the rubber. It is a long, uncommon name. I still have it. :)

Two ideas and one interesting group:

1) ALL of the members of one medical school class in Britain bought their PINK-tubed Littmans together and had them engraved. None of them has walked off, yet.

2) One nurse marks, "For isolation use only-- (his name)" on the tubing.

And, here's a group for nurses who have had scopes stolen by residents:

Wow, he tried to argue--what was his excuse?? Did he willingly give it to you after the argument?
