Statistics and Microbiology

Published

I am considering taking Statistics and Microbiology together are these two classes okay together? I struggle with Math and I don't know how difficult Statistics will be for me. Is Microbiology as tough as Anatomy and Physiology? Do you think that I would do okay studying for both classes? As far as the time commitment and material involved.

I am in statistics and anatomy and physiology right now and I have to say statistics is kind of challenging. It's not really math, it's more critical thinking and knowing where to look for information. Anatomy is way easier than statistics. I made an A in micro which I found to be very easy as well.

I've yet to take micro, but I've already taken statistics and loved it (I got an A.) It's not so much math as understanding the problem you are reading, and then deciding which formula to use to number crunch. There is also some funky terminology that you'll have to learn, so that you're able to understand what you're reading. Show up to class, pay attention, and do the homework was my formula for success. I also had an amazing teacher, which helped quite a bit! I took that class with intro to biology and a literature class.

Thank you all for feedback it will help me make a decision.

it's important to do well in your prerequisites, but understand that nursing school will get harder, not easier. You'll have multiple science classes on top of clinicals. When taking a class, I usually try to read reviews of the teachers who have taught it; i usually prefer to take a class with a teacher who has taught it multiple times so that I can make sure the teacher is organized and fair. For me, taking stats and micro together would be ok, but it's up to you personally because I do not know your math background. I took AP Calc so I took stats along w chem and Spanish. I heard that physiology with microbiology is the hardest. good luck!

I'm taking statistics now and it's on a Sat. for three hours it's difficult due to the prof. zooming through the material and not explaining much. In my class I understand, but their is so much homework and your basically on your own. I'm learning through "youtube vids" Did anyone experience this? I'm thinking of dropping this class? I have never done that before but I fear I will skim by with a low C. Any help Please would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.

I feel the exact same way, I am taking it online right now with anatomy and physiology and it is quite difficult to understand any of my teachers notes. You are right I am basically teaching myself and hoping for the best. Anatomy is easy to me and stats is so hard! I flunked my first stats test and I NEVER fail tests! The great thing is we can replace our lowest grade with our final but I'm not sure what that's gonna be!! Very nervous and unsure of what to do in terms of keeping it or dropping it but I need it in order to apply to any BSN program.

Thank you for the support you have no idea how much your feedback means. I think that since it's an online course try to first call the professor and express your thoughts about the notes. I would stick it out until prior to deadline, if you think that it's going south drop it. Also, see how your next test goes. We all know that you don't want to redo A&P. I don't encourage withdrawal's, but if the prof. is not interacting and just throwing out commands that can be difficult. Wait and give it a few weeks. Good Luck and keep me posted. You can do it. Onward and upward:sarcastic:

Don't forget to use your college resources as well. My college offers a learning lab with tutors for every subject, for free! I didn't find out about it until my last year.

I think it is completely doable. I'm taking it now with A&P II and Microbiology (and humanities as well). I have to tell you, there is a lot of hype around taking these classes together. I was pretty hesitant myself. Now that I'm in it (since Jan), I can't believe I was so scared! It's really not all that bad if you stay very organized and spend time every day keeping up with the homework/study. I currently have high As in all of the classes without feeling like I'm doing school all the time. I do have kids and a pt job too. Just like anything else, you are capable of so much, just put your mind to it and make it happen!

Good luck!!!

I haven't taken stats yet, taking it this summer. However I have taken microbiolgy, I found it to be way harder than A&P. It may have been because my professor made sure to not give anything easy, she makes courses as hard as they can be! I didn't do research on my professor before hand, might be a good idea to look into that.
