Staten Island- What hospitals are my best bet as a new RN?

I have my ADN and graduated in December. I just received my NY license number and I am looking to apply to hospitals in NY. I will be living in NJ so I was probably going to try for jobs on Staten Island since that is the closet area NY to me.

What hospitals would be a good place to apply? I am not picky about shift or floor. I was a nursing assistant and did an externship in a Neonatal ICU.

Thanks for any advice.

Congrats and welcome to nursing!

Unfortunately, in case you haven't been reading the posts, places aren't hiring as they used to. New grads especially are having trouble find work, and these are the ones from last year.

But things are bound to get better. Just apply everywhere and take what ever is offered, just to get some experience. Good luck.

Funny, I was just looking. There are only two hospitals - the old St Vincent's, which is now Richmond University, and Staten Island University. The former is not hiring at all; the latter has a few positions.

Maybe the old Doctor's Hospital still exists. I don't know, though.

There's Eger's Nursing Home, Carmel - the nursing homes are always hiring.

I lived in SI the first 51 of my 55 years. I might have to return (I'm now near Burlington, VT) for family reasons.

I heard from a friend who works there that Eger isnt hiring as of now but aside from the two hospitals mentioned theres also st. elizabeth anns. Also, since you will be moving to jersey soon, you should try getting your jersey license so you could expand your search.

Hi, sorry if I wasn't clear. I live in NJ now and have a current NJ license. I was hoping to expand my job search into Staten Island, since the NJ job search has been unsuccessful so far. Thank you for the hospitals, I'll look into it this weekend.

Do you mean Bayley Seton? Nothing.

Clearly, to work in Staten Island you will need a NY license. Do you already have that?

Paco386- The first post states she already has her NY license number

To original poster... Sadly, I was thinking of doing the reverse and obtaining my NJ license to expand my search. What parts of jersey were you applying to with no luck?

SueNYC - Thanks for clarifying for me.

Hospitals in NJ are hiring some nurses but they are favoring internal applicants or nurses with experience or have new grad programs that want a BSN. I did finally get a job in NJ this week and start in next week. I applied within an hour drive of the New Brunswick area. Let me know if you have any questions about the NJ, I've become familiar with the hospitals and the application process over the past few months.

Hey Violet08,
