Hi all Im from Philippines, a NLE passer and an LPN in uae. Im plaaning to apply for u.s tourist visa next year and if God willing that ive granted a visa i want to apply and take nclex exam in CA and apply for work there, but im reading some info that you need to study again in CA before you can apply for exam, is that true? Is there any state which is easier to apply and then can i apply license for endorsement to CA after i passed to other state? thank you and God bless.

Moved to the Nurse Registration forum

Please take the time to read this forum, there are many many threads discussing CA and the others that have con-currency issues. You also can not apply to CA without a US SSN and you currently can not adjust your status and stay and work if you find a employer willing to go the immigrant route due to retrogression. Even if you gain a license in another state endorsing to CA will still have the same issues as CA do their own assessment and even many US nurses struggle to endorse to CA

Questions that involve license in the US and foreign trained are to be posted in this forum as many US nurses do not know what requirements are for International trained nurses

NCLEX is an international exam so there is no "easier "state to take it in. You cannot stay and work if you are in the US on a tourist visa. You cannot change your status while you are in the US. You do not apply to take the NCLEX. You apply for a license and passing the NCLEX is just part of the process. The process is long and time consuming. You cannot work in the US until you get a work visa. If you are looking at getting a Green Card expect to wait 6+ years.

Kababayan, here read this article, it's all in a nutshell. Click here: https://allnurses.com/international-nursing/end-phillipine-nursing-885162.html

There's no longer any desired demand of any more PH nurses not only in the US but Canada as well (they removed nurses off the Skilled Workers list).

Forget about endorsing into CA, even with ten years or more of paid hospital experience, unless your PH BSN degree meets the strict CA BRN requirements, it's not going to happen. The working experience cannot be used towards any college requirements or shortages, your BSN degree alone must withstand the minimum educational requirements.

As you read more in this forum, there's only been a handful of PH students or nurses that have been granted an RN license in CA since Nov. 2011. Last count there's about 4,000-5,000 stranded PH BSN holders trying to get their requirements satisfied in CA alone.

There was a recent article I came across from the PNA (Phils Nursing Assoc.) of CA that totally agrees with the CA BRN enforcement of the concurrency rules established in 1987, I just need to find it again.

To somewhat answer your question, there are some states (NY) that allows you take the NCLEX-RN without having a valid working approved SS#, but to actually have it issued to you will not happen until you provide the valid SS# plus any legit US employer will need a copy of the SS# card or the numbers that can be confirmed via the E-Verify computer system to show it's one allowing authorization to work in the Sates.

Assuming you pass the NCLEX (say in a state without needing the SS#), you will have so many years to provide with one or face an "inactive" status and in some states such as CA, you have only 8 years to provide them with a valid SS# or you will be required to RE-TAKE the NCLEX again if not your inactive license can be considered "abandoned" and will need to re-start the entire process all over again as a first time applicant with new non-refundable application fees AND meet any new requirements at that time.

thank you for all your reply! God bless you all

As long as you plan to stay and work and want your kids to go from babies to high school in TX, then yes, go for TX. There's a very good thread topic here on step-by-step guide on going thru the NCLEX-RN process for TX, just look for it here, good luck!

You do know that you can take the NCLEX-RN in the Phils if you wanted to, there's no need to actually be present in the States to take the examination. If it was offered on the moon, you could take it there too. The exam is the same in any and all countries. The people all surrounding you at any test centers will all have different exam questions anyways.

People can apply for work on a tourist visa the issues are staying in status whilst waiting as tourist visa can not without extreme circumstances be extended.

Do they not have to have a work visa to legally work in the US? I thought they couldn't work as a nurse on a tourist visa.
