some of my friends already applied for nclex for Ca but i am still preparing my requirements. then i heard that the application (does this "application" means after passing the nclex/the license?) will expire after 3 years and they don't issue a license number until i can give ssn#? what can i do, so that it won't expire? and how can i get an ssn#? or should i take nclex for another state?

thanks!

thanks a lot! maybe i'll try another state. thanks a lot!

Texas does not require local license

Jobs are more plentiful in Texas Area, and Texas is not feeling much of a recession

My wife is from PI with no Nursing Experience, and she is having numerous Job Interviews the last couple of weeks. She has had 3 Interviews at Hospitals and 2 Phone Interview and she has been to 2 Job Fairs at Local Hospitals.

I would get my Visa in and let your time count down

Glad Texas is not feeling the recession, but most hospital rely on Medicare which is government funded. Medicare has made policy that is they are only going to level fund. Large hospitals which get large donations have also been hit hard due to the fact all investments have tanked.

I also remember in the 1980's recession Texas was the last one hit and the last to recover.

It would be great if your wife could share her experience getting a job. Many interviews, calls and job fairs do not equal a position, I always wait until I get it in writing before I consider myself employed.

In great times I have had been offered a position in a day. Many people especially when moving out of state can't wait weeks to months for a job.

But to answer the OP question, I would take the NCLEX were you plan to live. For example you wife could not work in my state or other states without further paperwork, possible testing, etc.

I think we would all love to hear first hand from your wife......often second hand information is not the same.

ok..thanks for your advices.... i change my mind... i will not take the nclex for Ca... thanks a lot!

when i told my friend from a review center that i'm in doubt about my nclex application in Ca, she told me that its ok to take it... but i don't understand her explanation...what is hb1 visa? is that right? could it prevent my nclex from being destroyed?

i already started completing my requirements for the Ca nclex 2 months ago.

In what way do you meet H1b criteria? Usually must be specialised and unless they are affiliated to a university they are capped and applications are submitted the first April for October start must have passed NCLEX and have VSC in hand. Also California has a high unemployment at the moment so may find it hard to get H1b as employer must be able to prove that they can not employ locally

H1b applications submitted 1st April are usually all gone within hours

We're on the same boat, am also looking for a state to apply for initial licensure. I'm leaning towards Vermont at the moment, but I'm not yet done researching. How about you?

I guess that depends on what kind of job you are looking for...

From my experience, there are more acute care jobs in available in TX. Texas is not struggling nearly as much as California with this economic crises. I meet RNs in Cali that are being let go everyday!

You do have a major advantage over those nurses. That advantage is flexibility. If you are open minded about location, then there IS a job out there for you.

Do you have family in the States? To get a green card (yes, you will need one in order to legally work and pay taxes) you will need sponsorship either from a business offering a full-time job, or family willing to bring you to the states to get married.

From my experience, the green card process since 9/11 is extremely long, 1-3 years.

Hi! My mother is a US citizen currently in California. Can my mother sponsor me so I can go there and work as a nurse? I'm over 21, married with a daughter here in the Philippines, & just recently passed the local licensure exam. I'm still undecided as to wether I should take the nclex (New York seems to be a good state, according to most of the replies in this thread), or wait for the retrogression to pass. Thanks!

Your mother can sponsor you but you are still looking at several years if not over a decade before you get a visa, which according to current processing times on the visa bulletin for the Philippines they are processing 1991 so nearly 2 decade wait. Probably quicker to find a employer for yourself and wait and go through retrogression
