Starting Wages for LPN's and RN's

I'm sorry if this one belongs somewhere else, but I wanted to know what one can expect to be making as an RN or an LPN starting out. I know it varies by where you work and all, but just a ball park figure, since apparently I'll be paying back my student loans until hell freezes over. :madface:

Here in a small town in TX they start out paying LVN's in LTC 14.00/hr.

I think it depends on where you are. From what I can tell starting RN wages in metro area hospitals are about $23/hr. I live outside the metro and am working public health and we start our PHN's at $18 or so. I think the hospital in Mankato starts RN at $21 or so, not sure about St Cloud or Duluth areas. Hope that helps. I don't have a clue about LPN wages. Good luck!

I work in SE Minnesota and right now they are starting at $25 with an increase this spring. Every year there is a $2-3 pay raise to stay competitive with the Twin Cities. I've found this pay to be excellent for the cost of living and haven't found anything comparable yet throughout the US. I have no clue what the starting pay for an LPN is though.

I am an LPN working in a LTC facility in the Twin Cities. I started at $18.20 as a new grad (about six months ago). Base pay during the day is $15.45....there's a $2.75 shift differential for working 3-11. The RN's start at approx. $20-$21 I believe....during the day.

Not to sure about hospitals...but I think they pay about the same ($14-$15 range). However, I hear it's getting increasingly difficult to have an LPN job in a hospital.

I live in PA and just had my first interview yesterday at a city hospital. They offered me $16.40 to start which for this area is HIGH, other hospitals around here will start an LPN out at $12.23/hr!! RIDICULOUS!! I make more than that now as a CNA!!! LTC's usually start out at $16-$18 hour for LPN but there are some that are paying as high as $23.00/hr. If you want to work agency around my area the average pay is $26-$28/hr for LPN. I have no idea what RNs make around here though.

I'm in my last semester of school and have been checking around also, the hospital I work at as a CNA in southern MN starts new grads at $23-24/hr. (and they're union also), Rochester area from $25-30 depending on dept and shift differentials. I was also told by my Nurse Manager that they will not be hiring any more LPN's for the hospital either due to their Magnet (sp?) status. Usually LTC and home health pay lower than hospital around here too. Agency usually gets @ $30/hr but we haven't had an agency nurse in my dept in over a year. Good luck

Wages depend on not only where you work but also the shift. I live in central MN and the wages for an LPN can be as low as 13.65$ per hour. The lowest RN wage I have seen is 18.62$ (this however is a state job and we are trying to get this increased). You will make more in a hospital than in a nursing home but can make even more if you do agency work or home health work (24-28 per hr in home health) dependent upon the agency of course. I recently graduated with my BSN/Masters and I was offered 40 for my first job in Houston, TX. I laughed in their face and walked out. I have been in healthcare for over 20 years and management without a degree for 10 of those 20. Do these hospitals understand they get what they pay for yet?

I'm LVN in Santa Barbara, CA. LVN wages are no lower than $25/hr. I get $32/hr, but I negotiated due to my 13 yrs experience. Really depends where u live.

I live in the bay area of california, and starting pay for a LVN is usually around $35/hr...RN starting pay is usually around $50/hr...its so crazy to hear wages being around 15/hr...that seems so low, but then I remember the cost of living is extremely high were I live.
