Starting school soon...

Published

Hi, I'm around the Baton Rouge area and will be starting school in August. I'm as nervous as one can be, this is a career change for me at 31.

Can anyone give me a close apx. of what LPN pay is around the B.R. area? I'm just curious to know what I'm getting into.;)

I've always been interested in nursing but was pushed towards a different career choice when I was younger. I would like to go for RN eventually, but I hope this will get me started.

I hope to be around here some.

Congradulations and best wishes...... I am 42 and just graduated at the top of my RN class.... age is of no consequence.... in fact, if you are committed and determined to do well you may find the younger students trying to keep up with you! I'm thinking LPNs make around 12 -14 bucks an hour just starting out. Good Luck!

I was one of the older ones in my class at 28. The younger ones were out partying and I was home fixing dinner, bathing kids, washing clothes, and studying when the kids went to bed. I struggled with my grades because I'm more of a hands on instead of learning from a book. My mind was everywhere but in the book. I passed school and boards the first time (by the grace of God) and landed a great office job with great hours. Pay is ok for a small town. In Baton Rouge, I'm sure pay is good. Maybe between $10-$12 to start for office...more for LTC or Hosp. Good luck.

What are some LPN schools in Baton Rouge? Thanks in advance for the replies

Hi,

I am also starting nursing school in the fall. I am 29, married with two young sons (ages 3 and 1). I have a BA in journalism (got in 1998), but have been unsatisfied with the work I've found, not to mention the very low pay. So, both of my sisters and three of my inlaws are RN's -- they all love their work and are paid well. Plus, my cousin (who is like my sister) is in nursing school and will graduate in May '07. I am in Shreveport, Louisiana. I am nervous about mixing school with raising my sons, but I know God's strength will carry me on. What classes are you taking in the fall? I am not sure, but I think I'll just be taking one class plus the mandatory orientation class ... I think I'll be taking Chemistry. Then, in the spring, I plan on taking three classes. I will not have to take several classes (because of my previous degree) -- like English, psych and sociology ... hopefully! :) Anyway, you are around my age and we're both starting school this fall, so I thought I'd respond. By the way, my husband and I lived in Baton Rouge from 2001-2002. I liked it a lot, but hated the traffic. We still have good friends down there. Anyway, good luck with school!!! :)

I went to nursing school straight out of high school, and admire y'all for going back with family. I am a RN in Shreveport. :heartbeatI love my job, and wouldn't do anything else. I hope you all know how special our job can be, and work to make it better for the future.:)
