I've been struggling to get the $$$ together to take my prereqs for the past year. While speaking to my uncle last week, I mentioned that I was working 2 jobs just to make ends meet & trying to get $$$ saved for prereqs for nursing school.
After we hung up, his wife texted me to send them an email listing the costs of my prereqs & books as well as what my plans were after I finish prereqs. Took me 2 hours to type that email up but it was worth it...My uncle & aunt will pay for my prereqs, books, CLEP study guide & exams, Teas study guide & exam!!!! I'm hoping to start next week! I'm so ready & excited to get this ball rolling!

I wish I were you...I'm starting the Nursing Pre-Reqs in August 2015 but I have no support from my family at all. I'm starting the PCA program on Jun. 8, 2015 and it's 2 months and I starting Nursing PreRequisites in August. I am doing everything on my own with no help from my mother or anyone and it's really stressful...because I'm so young, my mom always give me a hard time when giving me her taxes to do financial aid and I am a dependent, she always threatens to put me out her house if I don't cook or clean or if I don't feel like babysitting her kids...I have no family support at all...and I'm just really fustrated but I will not give up...because this is something I really want to do...I just needed to vent though but good luck on your journey into nursing and God Bless your aunt and uncle.

I'm so sorry that you have no support system, I wish you nothing but the best in your endeavors. Please feel free to message me if you ever need to vent.
Awwe thank you and I always try to look at the positives in every situation.
Mikiah I know where you are coming from. I've been on my own since I was 16...my mom & dad weren't in my life much from 16-my mid 20s. I did everything on my own...
I spent the last 2 years unemployed, nursing has been a second chance for me. Finding a way to pay for CNA school took some time & strategic planning. But I was so glad that I took the plunge. Nursing has changed my life. I was about to give up seriously but I kept taking it one day at a time & little by little things worked out.
I was surprised my uncle & aunt offered, its way out of their character, they don't normally help family at all. It's definitely a blessing but I still have a lot of work ahead of me & I still have to find $$$ to pay for RN school once I get in. That's the real hard part lol
I say all this to tell you: Don't give up, stay positive...take 1 or 2 prereqs at a time, do what you can. Things will fall into place. Try and CLEP exam out of some of your general ed prereqs, it's cheaper than taking a full class at a jr. college. I'm here if you ever want to talk too. I find links to programs & scholarships all the time that I would be glad to share with you 😃

Are you able to apply for any type of financial aid?
I already have a BA in a different field, so I no longer qualify for free grants.
I also took out loans for that BA that have been deferred for several years due to my low income. So...pretty much I have the choice of taking out more loans, which I really don't want to do & plus not many want to give me a loan because my previous loans are still open & active. So, I plan on paying out of pocket for what I can, trying for scholarships, utilizing tuition reimbursement from the hospital I work at & I'm also looking into education sponsors/donors.
Good luck! Ambition is a great think to have.
