Hello there! I am 37 years old and will start taking my pre requisites at Tarrant County College in Fort Worth Tx.
I have ready some have applied to nursing school at this age but starting the pre req's courses seems like a long shot but I am so ready to take on this journey.
Anybody else going to this this community college? What is the hardest part about going back to school? I graduated high school 20 yrs ago!! That's a heck of a long time, I know.
I'm 40 about start pre-requisites in Jan. I call this the 2nd half of my life. Spent the first half working from home in customer service so I can be here for my 5 children to homeschool. I am nervous about starting over but I feel like what will help me is the tips I give to my children to succeed and do well.
So you are not alone!. Wishing you a great experience.

I am not in this particular boat, but I did decide to return to college to complete my BS in Sociology, then my ADN and most recently my BSN and I am 47. You can do it. Take 1 class at a time to get use to the new format of courses (online portion). Study, study, study and if you have children, find a good support system to allow you time to study. You can do it - just keep going!
Hi I'm 38, finishing up prereqs this semester. Applying for program to start Fall 2018. I should be 41ish when graduate ADN then will immediately RN to BSN thereafter. I graduated with a BS in psych so i didn't have many prereqs to take. Being back in school after 6 years, boy times have changed. I'm very dedicated and enjoy school than I did working sitting at a desk 40hrs. Good luck we got this!
This whole post gives me a confidence boost! Im 26 and thought I was being late to the game but turns out thats just not true!
You'll be the little peanut in the class! No - seriously - you are absolutely fine....I'm 45 and just starting out. Heck, if I was 86 and wanted this badly enough I'd do it....doubt I'd find a job at he end of it, but I'd still do it.
Hi all,
I wanted to share my situation.
After two years of working really hard to get a degree and finish the pre requisites, I was recently accepted into a program which begins this coming spring, I'm 48. If I'm lucky, I'll be starting my first job as an RN when I'm 50. I will say that my age has been a source of constant internal struggle between finishing this journey or returning to my former career. I nearly took the later route several times, but I'm glad that I chose to stick it out having come this far. For me, like I have heard others say, I'd rather be an RN at 50 than be 50 and regreting my choice not to pursue my dreams.
Hi! I concur with everyone that you shouldn't let your age bother you. I was a tiny bit older than you when I started prereqs, and just got my Rn last dec. I wasn't the oldest in my class and in never came up once in any class, clinical or teacher or co-student discussion.
Being older is also a huge advantage in many ways. When you've lived life and worked, you have a different perspective. I was incredibly focused and scored extremely high while working full time. It's just that, you know if you're going to do this, that you're going to do it. You're not going to complain about lack of sleep, or lack of social life. You study because in a way you know your future depends on it.
I'm not dissing the young or anything, it's just that they have more time to recover from mistakes, you know?
