Published

Hello, I will be starting N.S in January 2017 for my LVN in Phoenix Az. I'm going to Fortis College. Will anyone else be starting in Jan. I could also use some study tips. I'm so also a mom of three little kids. 2,3,4 I know my hands are going to be full. Any other moms? One here starting LVN school? I'm sooooooo nervous. :cyclops:

I am not starting, but already an RN. I am currently back in school to get my BSN.

Anyhow, would just like to say congratulations!!! I remember that feeling of excitement and fear of the unknown.

A few tips...make sure you have a great support system for yourself and your family. Make sure they understand they won't see much of you. It's great that you found this amazing site. It helps to navigate through all the pitfalls of your nursing journey.

Not sure what you will be doing for the next year before you start, but you could use this time to start studying key concepts like the nursing process or meds or something if you get antsy. Otherwise, just focus on getting super-organized and focused, because it will be very intense.

Again, congrats and good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I have a couple different apps on my phone Terminology, a&p, pharmacology .I've been going over them briefly. I'm very excited!!!!!

Congrats! I'm already an LPN and didn't attend that school... I graduated in 2007. I went through LPN school with a 4 year old. My hubby worked full time, I lived 50 minutes from the school I attended, and we had very little childcare help then. I also lost my stepdad who raised me during the second semester of nursing school right before finals!

My advice is "TIME-MANAGEMENT!" Make sure you have set study times, just for you with no interruptions. Take a day off on the weekends if you can to relax and spend time with family/friends so you don't lose your mind from studying! lol I took Sunday off every week just for me and family (this helped me so much keep my sanity during school). If you can place your children in daycare or with family while you study that would be best... I had to have a lot of quiet while I studied. I would drop my daughter off at preschool from 8:00am-3:10pm, then would go back home and study while she was at school. I was in an evening weekend program. I had nursing school two nights a week, and clinicals on Saturdays. My husband helped me a lot, and my mom would watch our daughter every now and then at night while I was at school. It really was a family effort to help me get through school.

I had to juggle my time so efficiently, I decided not to go back to RN school because it was just too much on me with childcare, etc. In 2008 I had another baby, and that was another reason I didn't go back. I studied about 35 hours a week total, and with kids it was hard. I would also advise study with online LPN questions banks, games, etc. Make it fun... I learned a lot from my books, but got bored with them. Online learning made it more fun for me! Our college provided an online question study bank for LPN students to practice with. I used that all of the time and learned a lot! :) You can do it if you set your mind to it. Make a self schedule & stick to it, that's my best advice! Good luck to you!

Thanks, so much for your reply. I'm so very excited, nervous,HAPPPPPY. I'm finally have my chance I can't mess this up.What school did you go to? How was first day of school? What would you say was your hardest subject? Did you find a job after school? How was your pay? Thanks so much for your reply.
