Starting LPN program January 11, need some heads up

Published

Hi everyone! I am starting the pn program on January 11 and I'm a bit nervous. It was a struggle just to get this far, I am really fighting to be positive. Anyone who is starting soon and those of you that already have and can offer some positive feedback, please advise. I know that nothing is easy but I want to be positive and confident. What should I take with me on my first day of school? What uniforms should I buy first? I bought about three sets of white dickie and urban decay scrubs and a lab coat but have no idea as far as anything else goes...the booklet is not to specific and the health department at the school is very busy. Also, if you know of any place online I can buy scrubs for a student affordable price, I would be very greatfull!!! :)

please check with your school whether they have their own uniforms and or lab coats. we had to use the school uniforms with their logo during clinicals and my white shoes for clinicals needed to be pre-approved as well. in class, you could wear anything you want.

so please make sure you are allowed to buy your own stuff before spending any more money. enjoy your free time now as you will have no social life during lpn schooling.

good luck!

Thanks for the advise:D. I will hold off on my excited spending spree......Well, I should just wait till the first day of class, I didnt have orientation, I was really supposed to go for April but, I was one of the lucky ones that got an empty seat...so that's why i'm a bit off tune. I'll blame it on the rain if I have too..:D

I have heard its intense, im nervous about that but I have to break the cycle that runs in my family of running when it gets tough...the bright side is, atleast now i will have an excuse for not going out so much...:yeah::specs:

Get ya a good NCLEX-PN review book from the get go. It will help u become familiar with how to answer your test questions. My teacher/program, does NCLEX style q's striaght from the start & also on the computer! I failed my 1st test and that was the last time. Went out and bought Kaplan & saunders review books to help me answer q's. best investment yet! I just finished the fall semester with an A for theory and a B+ in mental health class. Whoo Hoo!!!

It is intense...we have a lot thrown on us too. Between school full-time and studying every night, there is little room for social life or trying to work full time.

If you work, u may find u will have to cut back your hours. In the long run it will be worth it cause it will give you more time to focus on school. Statistics have shown that those that work more than 20hrs a week are less succeessful at school & passing NCLEX.

Thank you all! It's great advise, I will look into all this, I apreciate the effort to help out!! Take care and have a great weekend!

When I was attending an LPN/LVN program in '04 and '05, the nursing program provided all of the students with three pairs of uniforms, a lab coat, medical scissors, penlight, stethoscope, textbooks, and other supplies that the school deemed necessary for us to have. All we had to provide were the paper, pens, pencils, backpacks, highlighters, and other basic items that one would use to study.

Good luck to you!

Wow, that would be nice...I know for sure twill not be like that in my school...:o:nurse:

Hi, I'm actually starting LPN January 11th also.

Were required to buy certain scrubs, sadly they don't give them to us. But I have found some good websites that sell scrubs for pretty decent prices.

lydiasuniforms.com is a good one along with allheart.com

I've bought the lydias value scrubs for 4.99 each and there great.

Good luck!!! =)

Thank you! Yes those are great websites. Good luck to you too!!

Hey there, congrats on making your step into the nursing profession!:yeah: I just finished my year long program on the 18th of Dec, and I can honestly say, it was harder than working towards my bachelors degree! I will say that it was well worth it. If you want to be a nurse bad enough, you will find a way! Otherwise, wait and see what your school requires you to buy. I had to buy my uniforms from the school and they were a certain color with school logo on it. I also had to wear a polo shirt with the logo on it during class days. A good NCLEX book will help you too in answering questions using critical thinking.. GOOD LUCK:nurse:
