So I have decided to apply to WGU for the pre-licensure program in Houston Texas. I submitted my application to the school and the first step is transcript review to see what pre-reqs are missing. So I did that. It was only suppose to take a week but there was a problem with one of my transcripts (that did not work out in my favor). Anyhow, it took a total of 2 weeks. It turns out that I am missing 2 classes; Sociology and Microbiology. WGU suggested that I take them online through Straighterline. I did some research on Straighterline on AN and other internet sources and decided that I would take the Sociology with them but for Microbiology, I'm going to take it else where. The reviews for the Microbiology course through Straighterline were pretty bad and I don't want to take any chances. Straighterline is the cheaper option but not the best for this class.
For Micro, I took the advice of a couple others on here and I am going through EDUKAN. They are significantly more expensive (I think the class totals to $865). But the lab is online and they have excellent reviews from other students who have taken the class and it is a 8 week course. I think it's a good investment for peace of mind.
I have already paid for my Sociology class and will start it today. It's self paced and I hope to finish in in under 1 month. Micro starts on Jan 17.
Im excited! This is my journey to nursing school!
Okay so I took my TEAS exam. My overall score was a 74.4. It was not has high as I hoped. I went ahead and submitted my application for the program anyway. WGU require a minimum of 60% for entrance. I don't actually know how competitive the scores are for my area. I figured that I might as well just send the application to the review board. All they can say is no, right? If I get in, great and if not than I will start studying again and aim for a higher score on my TEAS. The rest of my stats are competitive (at least I think so). My GPA is a 3.6. I have previously medical field experience (WGU prefers applicants some medical experience for this program). I wrote what I think is a stellar letter of intent and I have was given a great recommendation. If I'm lacking, it would be because of my TEAS score.
So I should hear something in about 1 month. I'll do another update then.

I was accepted to the September 1 start but I had my advisor change me to the Conroe area cohort starting October 1 because the clinicals are closer to my home.
Hello everyone,
I am currently finishing up my last two courses (A&PII lecture & lab) and I plan to submit my official WGU Pre-Licensure BSN program application in mid-late May, depending on when the grades for those last two courses are put into the system. I will be applying to the Houston cohort. I found this thread and it has answered lots of questions I've had, so thank you!
