Starting my Journey to Nursing school

I was wondering how your Micro class for Edukan went? I was thinking about taking it.

Actually I just started it last week. The class is about 3 months long. So far it's taken me some time to get use to the platform. As far as I can tell based on the syllabus, we will be reading 4 chapters per week (which is somewhat intense). The course is divided into modules. Each week, you have to complete 2 modules (each module is over 2 chapters) and each module include 3-4 assignments ( 1 discussion board topic and you have to respond to 2 other students, Question/answer segment, where you points for asking a question on the module content, Quiz and virtual lab). I have not done a lab yet but it's suppose to be very realistic. There is a specific require for the post and the responses which is outlined in the syllabus. You can not turn in assignments late. The quizzes are have a time limit of 15 mins, I'm not sure how many questions. There is a mid term (modules 1-4) and a final exam(modules 5-10). They are 50 questions and I think you have 60 mins to complete it. So far it's a lot if reading. Which is okay if you have the time. Its a short class so there is a lot in a small amount of time. The instructor is very helpful. She provided her email and personal number and said to call if we ever have any issues, she is always available. You can tell that she likes to teach this course because she is very responsive to our discussion post and give very detailed answers.

It's only been a week so I'm still very nervous. I'll do another update after I do some labs and take some test.

Sounds intense but doable. It seems similar to my online classes I took for my degree in Homeland security and I did fairly well in those classes.

Whats your our teachers name? I find teachers who are very active in online classes are the best ones.

i want to take this course so hopefully Chamberlain accepts it.

Perhaps more to the point is whether other reputable educational institutions will accept these if/when you decide to further your education later. Just for fun, call up the local university college of nursing and ask them.

So when you register for the class, you have to choose one of the community colleges they are partnered with, there are 6 to choose from. I choose Colby college, in Kansas. I think they are all in Kansas. So the way it works is, you are actually registered for the class through that college and they are using the Edukan online platform. When you get your transcript it will say the name of the community college you selected. It's not like straighterline where they don't offer degrees and you can only transfer to universities that they are contracted with. you still have to do your due diligence and make sure the college you choose is accredited but most community colleges are.

Update on my progress with Microbiology at Edukan. So I have done a few labs. It's a really neat program, its a smart program as well. Pretty much the way it has worked. The teacher give you instructions and you answer question based on what you in the labs. Its pretty easy after the first couple times. It takes about 30-45 mins to get through the lab, if you don't make any mistakes and you don't actually know if you have made a mistake until the very end. The goal for most of the labs is to identify the unknown organism and if you get it wrong you have start all over. When that happens it can get frustrating.

Overall I like it and the best part about it there is no mess in my kitchen.

The quizzes are pretty easy as well. They are mostly 5 question (I've had one that was 10). The first couple of time it was 1 try only and a time limit but the last few have been no time limit and 2 tries. I mean if you can't pass a 5 question quiz with unlimited time, I don't know what to say about that.

I have pretty much maintained an A average. I have about 3 weeks left in the class, there is a written assignment that, it's has to be atleast 12 pages. That's 's pretty easy for me. You have to choose 6 microorganisms and write 2 pages for each.

Update

I finished my Micro class with Edukan. I earned an "A". Now back to my sociology class with Straighter Line. I started it but took a break because I wanted to put more focus on the micro class. I'm also about to start studying for my Teas exam. I plan to take it in June. Im giving myself a lot of time because I'm applying for the last 2017 start day for WGU houston and I really want to get in otherwise I'll have to wait until 2018 (WGU makes you wait 6 months before retaking the teas).

Update

I have FINALLY completed my last pre-req, Sociology. I did it through Straighterline and it took me longer than expected.

The class was pretty straight forward. The first 3 or 4 module/assignments require you to read the chapter and submit a short essay on the question(s), an actually teacher grades it and response to it. Also you have a quiz (15 questions). All the quiz questions are related to the reading and the answer can be found in the chapter. The remaining modules only have a quiz. Half way through the course there is a mid term that has 30 question (I think). At the end of the course there is a proctored final exam. It is a cumulative test and it is also closed book/notes. It is a VIDEO/WEB CAM proctor which is pretty cool. You have to schedule the proctor in advance (they recommend 3 day). It take about 20-25 mins to set up before you start the test so make sure to allow ample time. The setting up was pretty easy. You just follow the instructions and then they connect with a proctor and the proctor completes the set up and tell you when to start the test. Here is a tip for the video proctoring, take the test in a quite room where you will NOT be disturbed. Lock the door if you must because if any one comes in the room the proctor can stop the test.

For this final exam, 2 hours is allowed and there are 60 question. It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be. I didn't study very much because I wasn't sure what to study. They do provide a "study guide". It just tells you what topics will be on the test and what percentage of the test will be on that information. I didn't really study but a lot of the information came back to me from what I had previously read.

My next step is to take the TEAS VI exam. Im going to take it the 2nd week in June. I found some information on The Adkins Academy. They have a prep course for the TEAS exam. It is very expensive from what i have read, about $1000. They guarantee that you get a high score on the exam. It's a lot of money and to most it may not be worth it but I'm considering it because I really would like to be accepted for the Sept 2017 start date and if don't do well enough I will have to wait 3 months before I can retest. I took the TEAS V exam about 4 years ago and I made a 62% and I spent a good amount of time studying for it so this time I want to ensure I a competitive score.

You are doing well with your progress. Have you submitted your application? I did not make the June or July cohort so I am going to retake A&P again this summer to get my science GPA up. I took the TEAS test in March and I did not do well either. I am really excited and nervous about summer school because it has been a long time since I have been in a traditional class.

I have not submitted my application yet. I'm planning to take the Teas June 17. Ive been studying but not really as much as I want to. So I'm really nervous about taking the test.

I'm also preparing my other documents for my application ( student statement, recommendation letter, resume). I finished my student statement over the weekend, I just need to make a few minor adjustments and I will send the entire file to my advisor. Then it will just be me waiting to take my exam.
