Starting at Galen...tuition question

Published

I am starting at Galen in October and plan to do the two year program. I was told that if I sign a contract with certain hospitals agreeing to work for them after i graduate they will pay for part of my tuition. Has anyone done this or recommend this? I have researched it some and I know that Norton, Baptist, and Jewish all have things like this but with different stipulations. I don't want to feel like I am stuck somewhere. Also, I am not sure whether or not I would already have to be an employee at some of these hospitals in order to sign the tuition contract. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or am I just rambling. lol. Thanks.

Anyone that goes/went/worked at Galen, I was getting ready to order my uniforms but it says all I need for LPN is 1 fashion scrub.... does that just mean the top? Underneath there is a spot to make comments for alterations just for the top but not the bottoms. Then underneath the Fashion Scrub, there is an option to buy a unisex pant. Can I just buy plain white bottoms somewhere else? I am so confused.

Yes, you can buy regular white pants. You'll have to have at least 1 scrub top (I recommend more, because you'll need them for clinicals, as well as labs, unless they changed that). You will also need 1 lab coat. If I remember correctly, the lab coats run really big- at least the instructor ones did.

Is there a place in town that you recommend for scrub pants? Can I wear any style as long as they are white?

As for the lab coat, I am in trouble if they run big because according to the sizing chart on Nanco's website I am a 3xs. I know I am small, but not that small.

I recommend Cardinal Uniform. They have locations all over town, and you get a 20% discount there for being a Galen student, I believe. I would stay away from the see-through whites, and the low-rise waist lines. You can get generic unisex white pants for about $14, so I would just go with those.

Hey, I'd take a 3XS any day...LOL

What do you do when your shoulders are 2 sizes bigger than your waist and hip measurements for the lab coat and scrub top?

Does anyone know of somewhere that actually makes custom scrubs for people in the louisville area??? I have tried many different brands and all of them are huge. I have tried the petite in the brands that supposedly run smaller as well and I am swimming in them. The crotch is down to the middle of my thigh lol. Any ideas? I've tried Urbane, cherokee, Izzy Peaches, Dickies. I just don't know what to do.

Ok, so no one replied to my post above so maybe someone can answer this. I found a site that says they "custom make scrubs" and you pick the type of pant/color/inseam and there is a box to put additional instructions. What types of alterations other than hemming up the bottoms can be made to scrub pants?

Speaking of the uniforms. I won' t have mine in time for clinicals because I just got enough money to pay today. Does anyone know how to contact former students to buy uniforms from them? I am willing to pay whatever I have to for the top I just need a seller.

Thats a good question I have no idea. Are you starting LPN? You could email Angie Metten and ask her.

hey yeah I am tomorrow :) I am in group A how about you? I made a mistake when I ordered. I didn't have the money because I had just bought books and just paid $750 for tuition so I opted to pay later. What I didn't know was pay later meant before its shipped. So I ordered them today but I will have nothing for Thursday which is really bad! I am hoping maybe someone ordered multiples and I can buy from them if there is no other way. Oh I did e-mail Angie as well and I will probably talk to her tomorrow sometime if possible!

I sent you a private message about the top. I am in group B actually, we don't start clinicals until the third week for some reason.

Hey I couldn't figure out how to message you back. I am really new to this. I ordered medium but I could wear from small-large. You don't start clinicals until the third week wow. I have clinical orientation on thursday and then clinicals every thursday after that. Are you in the day program?
