Starting at Galen...tuition question

U.S.A. Kentucky

Published

I am starting at Galen in October and plan to do the two year program. I was told that if I sign a contract with certain hospitals agreeing to work for them after i graduate they will pay for part of my tuition. Has anyone done this or recommend this? I have researched it some and I know that Norton, Baptist, and Jewish all have things like this but with different stipulations. I don't want to feel like I am stuck somewhere. Also, I am not sure whether or not I would already have to be an employee at some of these hospitals in order to sign the tuition contract. Anyone have any idea what I'm talking about or am I just rambling. lol. Thanks.

Yup I'm in the day program. My clinicals are actually on Tuesdays and I have learning lab on Thursdays downtown unfortunately.

I am the exact opposite. I have lab on Tuesday at Zorn Ave. Thank goodness. I hate the idea of going downtown and paying to park :(

I know it stinks. Hopefully next semester they will have a new lab down the street from Zorn like they talked about. Right now I think we switch learning lab locations every quarter or semester. So eventually everyone has to go downtown.

Anyone starting at Galen this month? If you are, have you gotten your email telling you which class you're in/where you start clinicals? I haven't gotten mine yet.

I am. Have not got it yet, but I was kind of wondering about it. I bet they will get it out soon.

Let me know when you get yours and I will do the same. Sometimes emails do not make it to their destination.

I do have a question for you. What kind of shoes did you get for clinicals?

:)

I have some urbane shoes that have a zipper on them. I have worn them for clinicals before and do not reccomend them. I think I am going to order some New Balances.

As for the email, last semester I had to email the director about it because I never got it. And she said that the email was being silly and some students got it and some students didn't. If I don't see it after orientation on saturday I am going to ask her about it. My schedule is probably the same as last time since it goes alphabetically.

Crap. I can't remember if orientation starts at 8 or 8:30!

It is at 8:30.

LoL. Thanks for replying. I read your reply really early this morning so I slept in an extra 20 minutes! How did you like orientation?

Glad you got some extra sleep. Sometimes those few extra minutes are just what you need to feel refreshed!

I did not go to orientation, so I must meet with Ms. Metten this week to sign some papers, etc.

How was it? Did I miss anything important? What exactly did they do?

I never did get my letter/email about clinicals. Did you?

I have another question if you do not mind. How do the white scrub tops run (the ones with Galen embroidered on them)? The sizing chart on the website makes about zero sense. LOL

Orientation was a lot less in depth than it was the first time I went last semester. So everyone is probably as clueless about everything as you are because it seemed really pointless. They went over parking since cops like to give tickets. They went over how to set up you're email if you haven't already. They had Cardinal Uniforms there so people could buy the blue scrubs uniform for Learning Lab days there. If you have any specific questions ask me because I am drawing a blank on what we talked about during orientation. It was really vague.

The white scrubs run BIG. I emailed to ask about which size top I should order because according to the size chart my shoulders fit a Small but my waist and hips would be a XXXS. The woman told me to order the Small so my shoulders would fit and I didn't trust her judgement. I order XXS and it fits my shoulders perfectly and is huge in the waist. I ordered 2 sizes down if that helps ya.

Do you know about the blue scrubs I mentioned for Learning Lab? These are also a uniform scrub, ceil blue with Galen on them. They have to be purchased at Cardinal Uniforms and Scrubs.

I did not recieve my schedule yet, no one had as of orientation on Saturday.

Do you know if you are in group A or B? First half of the Alphabet (Last name) is A and the last half is B.

Actually, I did not know the ciel blue scrubs were suppose to have Galen on them. I got mine at the Lexington store. The packet did not specify that. I guess I will have to exchange them in Louisville. Thanks for that.

I must be in Group A then. What about you? What is the difference in terms of clinicals, class schedule, etc. between A and B?

What is the deal with parking?
