Starting to freak out a little....

Nursing Students General Students

I'm starting an accelerated BSN program this January and after browsing these threads about nursing school - I'm really beginning to shake in my shoes a little :) I've always been an A student, love science and do well in basic math. I hear these tests in nursing school are a whole different level of "beastly". What is the best advice you guys can give me to get through nursing school alive and with at least a little of my sanity intact?

The difference is, IMO, that you must apply what you have learned or read and think critically to answer questions.

It isn't like "what is included in a cell" type of question. More like a pt is experience this this and that, what would be the priority thing to do? All answers would be correct..but what is most important. Or.....multiple multiples..select all that apply question suck. You nevvvveer know just how many answers can be circled [well maybe you can]. Are they trying to trick me and it's only one answer or is it all answers? Was this one or am I over thinking?!

Tricky tricky. Once you take the first couple quizes or exams, you will get a jist of how to study! Again, in my opinion.

GL!

Don't freak out too much. It doesn't do you a lot of good. The type of thinking is likely going to be the kinds of questions you'll see on an NCLEX. Lots of programs suggest you get yourself a few of those books anyway when you review for tests. If you've gotten this far, you've got some good study and learning habits. Also remember that people don't tend to post when they do well, only when they're "freaking out."

I would suggest buying a comprehensive NCLEX review book look Saunders to practice NCLEX style questions, because like the above poster said, most of them are application and analysis style questions and they can be tricky.

Make sure you get a book that tells the rationale on all correct and incorrect answers so you understand why the incorrect answer was not a choice. The Success books are like that. Get abook that explains the structure and how to answer different questions.

Looks like I'll be getting some NCLEX books, and Success books! Thanks you guys rock!

Test success is a great book to prepare for nursing exams. I recommend it when students struggle on their first exams.

I agree with the Test Success book. Much help. My other piece of sanity saving advice is to give your best and try not to stress over perfect grades. Some people "click" with the NCLEX style questioning and others just don't. I have friends who study tons and have the knowledge down cold who make Cs because they struggle with the testing. All you can do is use as many resources as possible to improve and do your best. :)
