Hi,
So I just got accepted into the "core technical" classes of the RN program and am going to be starting my clinicals soon. This is all contingent upon a background check and I am worried because I had a couple misdemeanor offenses when I was 18, which was 11 years ago. The specific charges were prohibited alcohol concentration and misdemeanor criminal damage to property. I am so worried about this. I was young and dumb and had an abusive ex-boyfriend that contributed to all of this. Do you think I will be okay?

I spoke to my professor about my misdemeanor from 2011. (A&B) He is part of the board who accepts/denies nursing students into the program at another college though. Well, he said that is you get accepted to the program that your automatically accepted for clinicals. I had asked him this very question because I was also nervous. But I am in florida. Don't know if that helps. If anything ask you school advisor they will have to let you know truthfully! Good Luck :)

I would talk to you BON sooner, rather than waiting til graduation

Just because you attend clinicals in school and graduate school doesn't mean the board will allow you to sit for NCLEX. I would check with the BON
I live in Florida and have contacted the BON here. They said in my case that I will be able to take the exam since the misdemeanor will be over one year old. But, it won't guarantee a job. I was told expungement will block all hospitals and it would be in my best interest to do that. All states are different.
