Starting clinical; need new shoes! Please help!

Published

Hi all!

I'm starting clinical this week, and I need to buy some shoes. I like clogs, but have never owned a pair. I need some with backs to them (either a strap, or just part of a heel), and ones that your feet don't hurt at the end of the day. Can any CRNA/SRNA recommend a brand that isn't too expensive? Thanks!

Kiwiangel,

First good luck in your clincials. I have a pair of clogs with backs on them. They are made by KLOGS. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned. They are like walking on a pillow and they are washable. I have had about 4 pairs of shoes since I started my clinicals last spring these have been the best so far. :)

I like my birkenstocks. They are slip-ons as well and you can get them in just about any color or leather. You will pay over 100.00 for them but they last forever and can be re soled if they are wearing low. They will mold to your feet. My feet used to hurt but after I got them they quit. If you go to an official birkenstock store they will fit them to you, etc. I also suggest getting a cushion insert for underneath the cork bed. I really like them a bunch. Whatever you choose good luck!

Nike shox for me. I used to wear New Balance, but the Shox (entire shoe not just heel) are the best i have worn. Long days are bad enough without having your feet hurting, so I recommend spending a little coinage and getting a shoe that you will be happy with. The Nike Shox are around $160 out the door. Well worth it to me.

I love my Klogs. The only time my feet hurt is if I do 3 12's in a row and even then me feet are more tired than sore. The cost was about $50. My only complaint is they are kind of bulky, it took me about a month to get use to them. They are so easy to keep clean! You can literally hose them off if need be.

First I got some Nike Shox, which have been pretty good. Mine cost $110. But then, I discovered Z-coils, which look pretty weird, but are the best investment I ever made. Their web site is http://www.zcoil.com. I swear by them. I am in my 50s, and can work 3 days in a row (2 12s and an 8 hour shiift) and my legs and feet arent' tired or sore. I may be tired, but the feet and legs aren't.

They are bulky and do take some getting used to, but they sure are comfortable. I bought mine on sale for $39.95 at the uniform shop. I love that I can just wash them off though.

I agree, Z Coils look like they would be comfy but at nearly $200 a pop, I personally would need to be 100% sure I had a job first! They look very comfy though.

I personally love my J. Rubio clogs - they are really comfortable with the funky spring in the heel. They are also much cheaper than the z coils. I can't imagine not having them after getting my first pair from Europe. Now they can be ordered in USA from: http://www.jrubio.us

Once you try them you may not want to wear anything else.

I love my Dansko clogs, they are a little hard to get used to , but if you walk around in them for a couple of hours in your home and "break them in" you will be hooked. I was told once you get used to them you will not want to wear anything else...and in my case it is sooo true ;)

I personally swear by the Dansko Clogs. Pricey, but well worth it if they fit your feet correctly. They will be about $115, but you may find a store that will give you a professional discount of 10% or so.

I would rather spend the money on a pair of comfy shoes that I can wear for years, than buy a few pairs of cheap shoes that KILL my feet every day.

I tried Klogs, Birkenstocks, and all kinds of other shoes over the last 10 years, and Dansko's are the best for me.

First hint: Go shopping when your feet are at their largest size. (After you have been standing or walking all day, or whatever...)

Second hint: Plan on buying at least two pairs of shoes, preferably different kinds. You don't have to do this immediately, but as soon as possible without ruining your budget. Wearing different shoes each day will give your feet and the shoes a well deserved rest. Your feet will feel better, and your shoes will last much longer.

Third hint: Don't let anybody ever tell you that you don't deserve to wear the most comfortable shoes you can find! However, don't place blind faith in any one particular brand of shoe. What feels good to one person can be downright painful to someone else. Consider this a long-term investment in your good health and happiness.
