Hello everyone,
After following this site for nearly a year and wanting to be a nurse for far longer, I've finally applied to somewhere!
More specifically, I applied to the University of Calgary for their Degree Holder program that begins in January 2012. My transcripts have been ordered so they should receive them pretty soon!
I'm very excited and hope I get in.
Anyone else here applying for UCal 2012?
Cheers,
Grace

Hi Grace! I just recently got accepted to the same program for January 2012 =)! Have you heard back yet? It would be great to chat with a fellow classmate before classes begin! Good luck!
Yes I just heard back a couple days ago! I was accepted! Are you applying to live in campus or are you a Calgary native?

Hi Glim06
I have applied for Degree holder Jan 2013 intake. Would you please tell me the GPA for 2012 intake. How is the program like. Living costs in calgary. I have waited for a very long time to get in. Hope I will be admitted for 2013 intake
Hi Mati
I think the GPA to get in for Jan was around 3.3-3.4 minimum in your last 30 credits.
The first part of the program has been a bit frustrating as it begins with community nursing instead of acute. I can't speak to acute yet as we're starting that this fall...
Calgary living is not to bad. However, I'm from Vancouver so anything is kind of cheaper than that in Canada... Rez is about 600-700 per month for the cheaper buildings (e.g. norquay, brewster, castle) but they are in really bad condition. It's nice that there's no sales tax in Alberta though.
Cheers
Thanks Glim06. They are asking for too many things. I did my bachelors degree in USA in Computer science and require course description. I also took my anatomy and physiology with Ryerson University and still wnat course descriptions. Besides that they want all my high school transcripts, post seconday studies that I took that are not related to nursing. more like Administrations and secertarial courses that i took. Lets hope the GPA for this year wont be too high as i am looking forward to get in this Jan. Do you know anything about U of Alberta.
You're welcome.
I applied and was accepted to the U of A as well. I did not accept the offer because it offers a "problem based learning" teaching style. From what I've read, it wasn't for me. Do check for yourself though.
Hi glim06. Hope you started well your fall semester. I just spoke with one of the admissions officer at u of c and she told me that my gpa for Anatomy and physiology is a bit lower. 2.33 I dont know if they will consider other 10 subjects for my last year in university. i am so worried and I really want to get in this program. I dont know if I will strike a chance to get in. I also asked if I can be considered for transfer degree. What do you think of the response that she gave me. Is there a chance?

Hello glim06,
This might sound creepy, but I saw a few of your posts from other threads and how you're from vancouver but attended UofC for Nursing... I was just wondering if you could give me a bit of advice or feedback on your experience since I'm wanting to apply for the BSN degree holder route in Calgary and I'm also from vancouver, just finishing my BSC in Biology at UBC. I'm just wondering if you found the adjustment really hard and whether you thought that the program was good or if it prepared you enough. I'm also planning to apply to BCIT here in vancouver, but UofC is appealing to me for other personal reasons. Any insights would be extremely helpful! Thanks!
