  1. Hi angela, My email is [email protected]. If you have gmail too, we can gchat. FYI, I think my skype username is also glim06... I'm a creative person. haha Grace
  2. angelhu, Is it possible to apply for the ANP straight out of a BSN? I'm currently at the university of Calgary in Alberta, Canada. I'll be done my degree Dec 2013 and I'd like to apply for Calstate for their nurse practitioner programs (not sure which stream yet). Could you tell me a bit more about admissions? I had a look through their requirements. They say I need licensing in California. As a Canadian, does that mean I just have to find a way to work down there for a bit before applying? That said, is there a minimum amount of clinical experience required before applying for the program? Is there a supplemental application or interview? So many questions! Please & thank you! Grace
  3. You're welcome. I applied and was accepted to the U of A as well. I did not accept the offer because it offers a "problem based learning" teaching style. From what I've read, it wasn't for me. Do check for yourself though.
  4. Hi Mati I think the GPA to get in for Jan was around 3.3-3.4 minimum in your last 30 credits. The first part of the program has been a bit frustrating as it begins with community nursing instead of acute. I can't speak to acute yet as we're starting that this fall... Calgary living is not to bad. However, I'm from Vancouver so anything is kind of cheaper than that in Canada... Rez is about 600-700 per month for the cheaper buildings (e.g. norquay, brewster, castle) but they are in really bad condition. It's nice that there's no sales tax in Alberta though. Cheers
  5. TanFran, WOOT! BC girl. =D Yeah, I have very poor scam radar so I figured my best bet would be try and get a room on campus at least until I'm a bit more Calgary-savy. I am also not terribly cold tolerant but I figure with enough pairs of Long Johns I can do anything. HAHA. Would you be willing to email with me? I can send you my email address via messaging. Once I figure out how that works! Hopefully, we can help each other out with the whole moving to a new city business.
  6. I am actually from Vancouver. I did my undergrad at UBC. I've never been to Calgary even so I hope you can tell me all about it! I am planning to fly over early January and move into res. Are you going to be staying on campus too or are you from Calgary?
  7. Hey guys! I'd like to join this thread and say I got accepted for Calgary 2012 too! Hello to you both! Grace
  8. Yes I just heard back a couple days ago! I was accepted! Are you applying to live in campus or are you a Calgary native?
  9. @Petethecanuck Thanks! Turns out as of Tuesday I was accepted into Calgary after all. I'm pretty happy about this as I was uncertain about how I would fair in a CBL program although it sounsd like it could a very effective tool for some learning types. I'm pretty old school and did my entire undergrad in a lecture-based system so I feel like I know how to learn that way. That said, YAY. Calgary! I'm definitely heading off there for January. I've even figured out how to register for my courses and everything. I guess you will be nearly done by the time I get there though. =D Anyways, thanks for your help in answering the various questions I've posted on allnurses. @rangerlil That's got to the best and most concise answer about CBL I've come across. Thanks for the information and helping me make a better decision for me. Congratulations on graduating and getting a job!
  10. Hello Everyone, I recently found out I was accepted into the University of Alberta's After Degree Nursing program to begin in January 2012. I've read some older posts about their CBL learning and been a bit discouraged but was wondering if anyone has heard any positive news about it since? Has it improved since it's inception? How are people who are graduating from it finding? It'd be especially awesome to hear from some students in it right now or just recently finished it! Also, being not so great with computers and what not, I've been having difficulty figuring out how to accept the offer of admission. Their website just says "Congratulations" and basically that I can enrolll at any time. However, I feel as though there should be a confirmation deposit I should be paying or a button to push on their student service centre... If anyone can shed light on that, I'd also be very grateful. Cheers, Grace
  11. Hey RNstudent2013, I suppose 3.85 is the average rather than the minimum but even then, that's quite the GPA. CONGRATS on getting in with competition like that. =D =D Good luck in September and with luck I'll be there soon too. Cheers, Grace
  12. Hey Petethecanuck (I'm from Vancouver too btw =D), Thanks for your answers! So are you in the 20 month program? Must be crazy but it's great that you're almost finished! Do you remember if U of C looked at anything beyond your aGPA? Such as an essay, volunteerism, work experience, etc, etc. If so, how much of your application was weighted on these external factors? Lastly, this may be jumping the gun but do you recall how long it took them to get back to people in terms of whether they were accepted, waitlisted, or rejected? Cheers, Grace
  13. Wow! 3.85 is really getting up there. I wish I'd been around when there was a 3.0 gaurantee. I'm applying to the degree holder route that starts in Jan 2012. I've got a 3.2 aGPA when the admissions advisor expected the competitive average to be 3.4. Hopefully, they look at my other qualifications as well! Best of luck getting in this fall!
  14. Hi, I'm wondering where you heard that U of C gaurantees acceptance at 3.0? Thanks. Grace
  15. Hello everyone, After following this site for nearly a year and wanting to be a nurse for far longer, I've finally applied to somewhere! More specifically, I applied to the University of Calgary for their Degree Holder program that begins in January 2012. My transcripts have been ordered so they should receive them pretty soon! I'm very excited and hope I get in. Anyone else here applying for UCal 2012? Cheers, Grace
