Start LVN school in 8 days

Published

I am literally counting down the minutes to when I start school.....Dec 29th will be the happiest day of my life....I will try and let people know what my first day of school is like......Please let me know if anyone else starts soon.....:D:yeah:

TxNursing Student.....how was your first day of school.....let me know....

Well, I had my first 3 days of class this past week (we started on the 7th). I am thankfull that out of the 6 classes this semester I only have to take 3 of them. Kinda eases me into it. (I took some prerequisites for the RN program so I can bridge when I am done)

The first couple of days were ok for me. We went over alot of procedures/policies kinda stuff. We went through our syllabus and decoded it.....its written really weird! Alot of people still don't get the calendar and abbrevations on it. We met our instructors, made sure everyone had the right books etc. The second day we dove into lecture and on Friday we went to the clinical lab and went over the do's and don'ts and schedule of the lab and free time to practice.

I am still trying to figure out the routine of things. I am very OCD and having to adjust to not being on a day by day routine is a little overwhelming to me.

I have a friend that suggested I get a year-at-a-glance calender (one where you see all 12 months) and write all the IMPORTANT stuff on it. It sounded so simply and silly but I did it and it was such an incredible relief of stress.

I put all my tests/exams in red, papers due or things that were special (not daily stuff) in green and days that we don't have classes in blue. It hangs right next to my desk.

All of the sudden it didn't seem so overwhelming....just idea for anyone else to try!

OH and don't forget to write GRADUATION in big bold letters in your favorite color. It will make crossing off each day a little more fun.:D

Good luck to everyone be sure to keep us all updated..I need to go and finish my chapter reading and notes for tomorrow! Yeah!

My first day was pretty good i must say. It was really just kinda an orientation day. When we first got there all the instructors introduced their selves and then we had to introduce ourself to everyone. We went over our first level syllabus and took our id pictures. Then we went over the handbook. We didn't end up having to stay the whole day so I'll have to let yall know how 2morrow goes (my first real day..lol) Oh yea we had homework - we had to read 6 chapters. we have a test monday but it's basically just to see what level in math every one is on.

yes i am from lufkin, actually hudson. we probley know each other lol ..

Lol well if we dont we def will by time this journey is over. So what do you think so far?

MsTn81....I am still in shock and sleep depreviation has set in.....we have 3-4 test every day and Friday we had 6, it was crazy, but I love every minute of it....good luck on you first day of class..

And Shock it is... I also feel you one the sleep depreviation part and this was my first week. The chapters are coming so fast its sooo over whelming, but its gonna be well worth it in the end. Our first test is next thursday its only two. I was blessed to have teachers that are willing to help. Anything worth having is worth working hard for.

Good Luck to you all! I graduate in April09 so I am very excited. Study Study Study is all that I can say.

lildiptalia you are graduating the month that i start, congradulations! do you have any advice that may help me when i start besides study a lot? i know i am going to have to devote my life to that, lol.

Ok here is my version of life of a lpn student...make sure that you have a bottle of wine because you are going to need it when you get so stressed out! I would practice especialy for the nclex your critical thinking. What also helps is the ERI. I don't know if your school has it, but it really helps with the critical thinking. For clinicals I would say to be the one to find your own problems with patients, meaning if your doing a bed bath and you notice the other patient has a foley cath then take the initiative and ask the nurse if you can replace it (if it has doc orders). The thing I hate is that students complain that there arent any procedures to do and they don't go looking for themselves. At my school we have 2 patients, but I want to learn so I am walking up and down the halls answering call lights (you never know what your going to get) assessing patients and seeing what I can do to get better at being a nurse. The most important thing I would say is to make sure things are good at home. If things are bad then they will reflect in your school work! 1 year is a long time especialy for things to happen so prepare yourself for a ride of a lifetime! In my year I have experienced death, my cancer coming back, arguments with boyfriend, moving, high gas prices, and my year isn't done yet! Just keep the faith as I have and count down because it will be here before you know it. Good luck, I will say a prayer for you and your family!
