start if care oasis time frames.

What is the average time to start a pt. It takes me about 2 hrs and I use the oasis page by page. Others tell me they do it in an hour, others tell me they don't use the oasis in front of the pt, but rather fill it out after the visit.

We are still,on a paper system, that being said , not including any travel time, it takes me 2.5 to 3 hrs to complete a SOC. and i have been doing this for more yrs than i choose to remember. Lol. Now i do. NOt get back very much for corrections

Do you spend the 2.5-3 hours at the. House with the pt? Or do you spend an hour with the pt and the rest somewhere else filling out paperwork. I'm new and it takes me 2 hours with the pt, filling out oasis, then I go home and spend another 30 min filling in what ever I skimmed over. Is this average? Like I said someone told me it takes them an hour.

It takes me between 1 to2 hours, depending on how much teaching is needed or how complicated the admission is. I recently had a pt with a new ostomy that was a mess and was there for 2.5 hours, but that's rare, thank god! I don't go thru the OASIS on the computer in front of the pt - I'd much rather do the computer part in the comfort of my own home with my feet up! I have a cheat sheet that I take to each admission that has all the OASIS questions on it - I just go down the list and write the answers to all the questions. On the back I write the pt's version of what sent them to the hospital. It's worked great and I have a hard copy to refer to for the rare corrections they ask me for!

Thanks, i think i'll make a cheat sheet too! Love the idea

I find doing the OASIS SOC in the patient's home is so much easier and faster for me. When I come home, sometimes I just don't want to be bothered and I end up submitting late. This is an annoyance. I spend an hour in the patient's home, sometimes a little longer depending on their diagnoses.

Squeegee, do you have a copy of that cheat sheet?

I am new to home health and I just had an orientation on Oasis. If I sat at the patient's house to do it and the assessment, I can see that I'd probably be there 3-4 hours!

Squeege i was. Wondering too if u have copy of soc cheat sheet that u would like to share

I did 2 soc today, spent about 1 hr 15 min in the home, 1 hr 30 min on documentation and 30-40 min of travel, so usually 3 to 3.5 hrs per soc

I'm glad to share! It isn't anything too complicated, I literally just opened an SOC OASIS and copied down the questions. Just PM me and I'll send it to you!

So glad to see there are some that take more than 1 hour to complete an SOC/ROC. For an SOC, I am in the home rarely a minimum of 1 hr, usually 2 hours or more. We are on computer, but I do use a cheat sheet, because the flow of information on the computer is not what I am "programmed" to. I do a head to toe assessment, including questions about possible conditions and document any irregularities/pathology on a cheat sheet. At home I complete the documentation on computer and that can take up to 2 hours. We are paid $50/admit; $40/ROC, based on that I guess I make about $18/hr or less and I have been an RN for 27 years, in home health for the last 11 years. I had a manager, who never worked a day in the field, tell me it should never take that long to do an admit. BTW I once oriented with an RN who could do an admit in 30 minutes, she never touched the patient. It was slam, bam, thank you mam, sign here! I guess I'm just not doing it right, if you know what I mean. Home health takes advantage of staff, in a not so good way. I'm 99% retired, work prn on a very limited basis and can't wait to be 100% retired!

I'm glad you are still with your agency, for your patient's sake, anyway. It's possible to do a SOC/ROC in 30 minutes, but you would never be able to do a good or thorough one in that time frame. How can you develop a plan if care if you don't know anything about your pt or haven't done a complete head to toe? Your patients are lucky they have you!
