Stanford Medicine Healthcare Nurse Residency March 2024 Cohort 40

Updated:   Published

Starting a thread for the New Grad program starting March 2024!

Note from allnurses Staff

As this is one of our most popular new grad residencies on this forum, with hundreds of threads over the years, the allnurses support team wanted to share some additional information on the residency program.

Good luck to all!

Stanford New Nurse Residency Program

The Stanford RN Residency Program, which started in 2006, is one of the most sought-after residencies in the country. The Winter 40 Cohort has a start date of March 18th, 2024.

It is a separate residency program from the Stanford Children's Health (Lucile Packard) Program and the Stanford ValleyCare programs.

Residency Program Pay

The pay is competitive at $81.69/hour plus shift differentials:

  • 10% evenings
  • 18% nights and
  • 5% weekends

Interviews

Interview invites are scheduled to be sent out at the beginning of January, with the interviews taking place from January 29th- February 9th, 2024. There are two separate interviews:

  • Panel level: an approximately hour-long virtual group interview with 4-5 candidates; each applicant will have an opportunity to answer all the same questions
  • Unit Level: a 30-60-minute interview with the hiring manager and potentially other members of the leadership team; this interview could be virtual or in-person

Specialties Offered

There are four specialty areas that participate in the new grad program:

  1. Critical Care
  2. Inpatient Medicine Units
  3. Inpatient Surgical Units
  4. Inpatient Oncology

As well as some additional specialties (subject to change). Applicants are asked to rank their preferences, but you will only be interviewed for one specialty.

How do you know they are not hiring ICU?

did it say in the invite?

yes they wrote in a red color

Please note: We will not be hiring nurse residents into critical care for cohort 40. For candidates who selected critical care as their top preferred area, their application will still be considered. We will be offering interviews in their next preferred choice based on availability.

from the email I received

Anyone get interview invites for oncology yet?

None for me....

Is there a deadline to respond to the interview invite by?

No, but it was my fourth or fifth choice though. I'd still be ever grateful for it though!

Anyone  get an invite to float pool?

One of my friends did! I am still waiting

Do you guys think they'll have sent out all their interviews by tomorrow before the webinar next week?

My hunch is that if we don't hear by tomorrow night the odds are not looking too good. Especially since someone mentioned how many slots there were for the interviews. The webinar is to help those interviewing so it would make the most sense to notify everyone beforehand so they can opt to join or not join. I hope they notify candidates either way so we are not just waiting around in limbo!

It is the craziest limbo. Might beat waiting for NCLEX results—haven't made up my mind yet ?

Anyone hear back from oncology today?

I haven't heard anything yet:/ but I think I put ICU #1 so IDK if that is messing my app up

I just got an interview invite for their surgical unit!! 12:06 PM!! Inpatient surgical was my #2 choice, while Inpatient Medical was #1 and Inpatient Oncology was #3.
