Stanford Medicine Healthcare Nurse Residency March 2024 Cohort 40

Updated:   Published

Starting a thread for the New Grad program starting March 2024!

Note from allnurses Staff

As this is one of our most popular new grad residencies on this forum, with hundreds of threads over the years, the allnurses support team wanted to share some additional information on the residency program.

Good luck to all!

Stanford New Nurse Residency Program

The Stanford RN Residency Program, which started in 2006, is one of the most sought-after residencies in the country. The Winter 40 Cohort has a start date of March 18th, 2024.

It is a separate residency program from the Stanford Children's Health (Lucile Packard) Program and the Stanford ValleyCare programs.

Residency Program Pay

The pay is competitive at $81.69/hour plus shift differentials:

  • 10% evenings
  • 18% nights and
  • 5% weekends

Interviews

Interview invites are scheduled to be sent out at the beginning of January, with the interviews taking place from January 29th- February 9th, 2024. There are two separate interviews:

  • Panel level: an approximately hour-long virtual group interview with 4-5 candidates; each applicant will have an opportunity to answer all the same questions
  • Unit Level: a 30-60-minute interview with the hiring manager and potentially other members of the leadership team; this interview could be virtual or in-person

Specialties Offered

There are four specialty areas that participate in the new grad program:

  1. Critical Care
  2. Inpatient Medicine Units
  3. Inpatient Surgical Units
  4. Inpatient Oncology

As well as some additional specialties (subject to change). Applicants are asked to rank their preferences, but you will only be interviewed for one specialty.

Any oncology invites?

Thanks. My bruised ego hopes it's the one specialty that hasn't finalized their list or something.

Fingers crossed it's yours!

thank you and congrats to them - I prefer this bandaid to be ripped off!

We can always apply on the next cohort or apply again when we get experience. This is not the end. But yeah, it sucks that we don't even get to know where we stand at this point while others are doing their preparation for interview. We don't even know if we should prepare or not T_T

I think what threw me off was finding out today that invites extend out to the 26th of January. For some reason I thought all invites were out by this week. So maybe that's a good thing...what to do over the next potential three weeks tho...

not all hope is lost guys!

I wish all of them went out this week! It's kind of mean to drag people along for 3 weeks in the event a spot opens up. This is the first hospital I've seen do it like this. Usually all of the invites go out at the same time and then if someone declines they let the backup person know within a few days, not weeks. also I guess right know we are "waitlisted" if we haven't heard anything? But getting an invite depends on someone else declining so I'm not sure how hopeful that is LOL maybe we should log onto the webinar and ask specifically their process so we know if we should save ourselves the mental pain of remaining hopeful...

Yeah I agree. It's pretty brutal. I can't imagine many people declining Stanford. Hopefully the webinar will clear things up!
