Hey everyone,
I applied for the May 2014 GEMS Program at Stamford Hospital. I know there is a thread already for the GEMS program but it has been inactive for a while. I know the deadline was March 16th, 2014 and in an e-mail I received shortly after submitting my application stated that candidates would be contacted if Stamford was interested. Did anyone get a call back? If so, can you share your qualifications (i.e GPA and any experience you felt gave you an advantage)

Hi! I applied as well. I spoke with an administrator there a few weeks ago and she said if I don't here anything by the first or second week of april then I should look elsewhere. At that time there were already 300 applicants. I was hoping people who get get called would post here so I would know when to move on. good luck
Thanks for that information. I was under the impression that this week past was the final week. Glad to hear there is still a chance. Yes, I hope others post and let us know if they heard anything from Stamford. Best of luck.

My email said they would be reviewing all applicants by the end of March and they would reach out to candidates of intrest to them via phone. So its now the end of March (one day left to March anyway). I'd figure if one were selected they'd hear shortly.
I don't recall the application requesting GPA etc. Then again I applied in late January and I don't really remember what was asked on the application, thought it was just general info and the resume and cover letter. Well, I suppose we will all know shortly.
I'm hoping my decades working in healthcare is a plus as well as being an LPN for 5 years. But I have a bad feeling like with most places it will be all about 'who you know' in order to get in
CT Pixie,
I don't think the application asked for a GPA but my assumption is that a high GPA, any experience and level of education would be what Stamford is basing their decision on. So, I just wanted to know what kind of experience other applicants have. Sounds like you might have a chance since you seem to have a lot of experience. I guess we'll see. I hope Stamford sends an e-mail either way; just so I know the final verdict. Good luck!

I know this thread is a little old, but one of the new grads that was hired with me at Danbury Hospital did a lot of her clinicals last year/this past fall at Stamford Hospital and said that she had applied there, but the manager of the floor she did her senior practicum on told her that the hospital was in a hiring freeze.
I would honestly suggest looking into Danbury / Western Connecticut Health Network. I've only been here a few weeks but so far I'm loving it, and there was a decent amount of new grads hired at the same time as me.
I've put in a ton of apps for Danbury/Western CT Health Network..and nada.
As for hiring freeze, that may be (although I do see jobs being posted) but this is the new grad program they have. They take on a small number of new grads and 'mold' them so to speak. They do it yearly (twice a year) regardless of hiring freezes or not.

Hi rinskins,
Do you know if Danbury Hospital will hire new grad associate degree nurses? I graduated in December and got my license in March, started my bsn and still haven't gotten any calls. Im in NY by the way but I'm willing to move close to Connecticut if I can get an opportunity over there.

Has anyone heard back for the Aug 2014 GEMS Program?
No, I haven't heard anything back from Stamford Hospital. Did you notice that they separated the externship into different units? Med-surg, maternity, ICU.
Yes. I applied for the med/surg and emergency. Which did you apply for?
I applied for med-surg and maternity.
