I'm about to take my first travel assignment, and I was going to turn to you guys for any advice on housing. I am traveling with my son and a family member, so renting a room is not an option. I am looking at short-term lease apartments, but I was wondering, how hard would that really be having to turn everything on only for a few months? Also, I keep seeing corporate housing listed as an amenity under some apartments. I know what corporate housing is, but I've never seen it listed with apartments. Has anyone ever used this before? Thank you for your time and advice!!!

Any travel nursing assignment should include safe and adequate housing.. for YOU. I have had excellent accommodations, a condo in Waikiki and a beautiful apartment in Scottsdale. 100% paid for including utilities.
Your agency is under no obligation to house your family members.

First thought is make it easy and enjoyable your first assignment and let the agency provide housing. They will take care of all the small details (perhaps excepting cable and internet) and you just walk in. Turnkey housing. You may have additional payroll deductions if you need extra bedrooms, but sometimes not.
Often agencies will use a third party provider for turnkey housing, a medical housing specialist such as Travelers Haven. You can use those companies directly as well. Corporate housing is also readily available at extended stay hotels. Usually "corporate" means not just furnished and utilities on, but also linen, pots and pans, small appliances.
Thank you for your reply! I realize the agency is only obligated to me, but, I am willing to use my personal stipend to make it available for my small family as well. I was just asking people how they went about finding housing for themselves that worked. In your situation, did you opt to have the agency provided your housing?

I totally read this as "Time Travel Nursing," hahahaha! If only.
Nothing constructive to add, but I will sign up if that ever becomes a specialty :)

Yes, the time travel part would be fascinating, but the working conditions and pay (at least if you go back) are not so good.

A travel nurse who works at our hospital uses airbnb or craigslist to look for listings. She travels with a group of other travel RNs.
Thank you all for the great responses!
