Peds Travel Nurse looking 4 a change
Hello! I am currently a pediatric travel nurse. I am looking for a career that will.get me away from the 12 hour shifts. I am a single mom.of a 5 year old that is growing up way too fast. I am missing out on so many things, and as he gets older, I know he'll be needing me more and more due to homework and activities. I am looking for advice. What are some other nusing positions that I could look into that would allow me a day job, not 12 hours? I would be willing to further my education. Of course I know I could go into endo or OR or PACU, but I was curious if there's anything I may not be aware of that would allow.me to continue working with children. Any advice? Thank you!

1st time Travel Nursing/Housing???
Thank you for your reply! I realize the agency is only obligated to me, but, I am willing to use my personal stipend to make it available for my small family as well. I was just asking people how they went about finding housing for themselves that worked. In your situation, did you opt to have the agency provided your housing?

1st time Travel Nursing/Housing???
I'm about to take my first travel assignment, and I was going to turn to you guys for any advice on housing. I am traveling with my son and a family member, so renting a room is not an option. I am looking at short-term lease apartments, but I was wondering, how hard would that really be having to turn everything on only for a few months? Also, I keep seeing corporate housing listed as an amenity under some apartments. I know what corporate housing is, but I've never seen it listed with apartments. Has anyone ever used this before? Thank you for your time and advice!!!

How to pay for Nursing school: Student Nursing Scholarship + Financial Aid Links
I need some advice and HELP!!! I do not know how to pay for my nursing school! I cannot get a bank loan; I am no longer eligible for a grant, and I do not qualify for a pell grant b/c I already have a BS and am going for an Associate's Degree. I know that I can sign a contract, but I do not want to stay in the area I currently live in for more than a few months after I get my license. Will other hospitals "buy out" your contract? Any advice would be grately appreciated!!!

BSN vs. RN Salary
Ummm, open up your FUNDAMENTALS BOOK... This was actually on our test..... A person who graduates with an "Associate's Degree" in Registered Nursing IS a REGISTERED NURSE. Guess what? A person who graduates with a "Bachelor's Degree" in Registered Nursing IS a REGISTERED NURSE. SO THEY ARE BOTH RN's. It's simply that the type of DEGREE is different in that if you want to pursue other areas: master's degree, teaching, PA, whatever, you must have your Bachelor's Degree to acquire that. There is typically no difference in pay, AND an Associate's Degree R.N. can be a charge nurse just like someone that holds a Bachelor's Degree. And as far as BSN's getting hired over ADN's, rumor. You both obtained the same skills and had to take the same boards...ugh that just made me mad.... this forum is to help one another, not bring others down. If an Associate's Degree is not "a real degree" why does every college all over the world SAY IT IS...okay, i'm off my soap box..

Snead State LPN to RN online mobility
This is actually ironic! I just went to Snead State yesterday. I spoke with the Nursing Secretary, Tammy Robinson. She was able to answer ALL of my questions; it was like she was an advisor or may be one--just a different title. She was telling myself and a friend about that pilot LPN online mobility program or whatever it's officially called. She said that this is the first full year of it, and if it meets all of the State's approval or if the State likes the results at the end of the year, they will continue it. She said so far it looks good. The thing that I was impressed with is that in that LPN mobility, if you are the student, you schedule your clinicals (90 hours) as a preceptor. COULD YOU IMAGINE HOW BENEFICIAL THAT WOULD BE!!! One-on-one with a medical staff member for your clinicals! During my clinicals at another school, there were 8 students fighting for one professor's attention and help. If I were you, I would go talk to Mrs. Robinson. She was just very polite and helpful. GOOD LUCK!!

has anyone taken a&p and microbiology together?
I didn't take them together, but it is possible. I know I could have done it together if I had to have done that. The only thing is to just keep up with studying a little everyday in both. I will say this though...I am speaking for the professors that I had. I think Micro could be absolutely horrible if you didn't have a good teacher!!! So ask around the campus about the professors and how hard they are and how they test first. You can do it!!!!

Question for Calhoun Nursing Students
You can apply for sure! In my opinion, this is going to have to be a PERSONAL DECISION...You CAN DO IT, but I will say that I personally wouldn't have wanted to take Micro or any classes other than Nursing classes during nursing school--but that's just me. You sound like you could handle it; you are a very smart individual. You just have to decide if you want to take on that kind of load. Good luck on everything!!!!

Has anyone taken Human Anatomy & Physiology at Shelton State?
I took it back in the fall of 2000, haha, long time ago. I made SO much better there than at UA. I cannot remember the guy's name..I'm sorry. Wish I could be more help. The only thing that I remember about that class (can't remember if it was I or II, but it was the one's on the bones and muscles) is that in lab, the instructor gathered everyone around and showed us what he wanted us to know for the lab test. Then you had time to go over it yourself. No disecting, not really much detail, just very simple. I do remember that the lab tests were timed, but you could go back and look at them more than once. Also with the bones, you had to identify the bone just lying there---not attached to a skeleton, so that can be tricky. I hope that helps a little...good luck.!!

Travel Nursing..HELP!
I am still in nursing school, but I have serious plans to become a travel nurse after obtaining my license. I've asked SO MANY people in the field, but I cannot get a clear answer. I realize that different travel companies have different rules and requirements, but my question is this.... Once you pass the boards, how long do you have to wait before you can begin a career as a travel nurse?? I know many of you out there may not have personal experience in this, but if you are aware of any info, I would appreciate it. And of course those of you who do have personal experience in this, I would love to hear any advice you have too. I'm reaching out to you guys b/c I don't even know where to begin looking, calling, or researching this...THANK YOU!!! Take care.

LPN-RN Mobility.....HELP!!
I just went through all of this..."MAYBE" I can help...but first I need to know where you are applying...You are in AL right? And also, are you in a hurry to get out of school, or are you a little more patient and just as long as you get your degree, you do not mind being in school a lil longer?? BTW, I just joined, so I'm learning how this works!!!
