St pete college fall 2013

Published

Hello,

I have read previous posts on here over the last few months regarding admission to SPC's AS Nursing program. I applied for the fall 2013 semester. Are there any applicants out there who also applied? I am playing the waiting game. Do any previous applicants know how long it takes to hear if you are accepted or not, once the application window closes? Thank you:)

Yes, at orientation. You'll get the bulk of information there. Good luck, don't stress out now, because that'll come when the program starts :-P Just make sure to stay on top of your blood work/tests/vaccines.

Do u know what the meet times for class and clinicals are for day?

Hi, I'm in the days program. My schedule for Nursing I has been:

Monday: 1-3 pm (clinical lab at HEC)

Tuesday: 6am-3pm (clinical)

Wednesday: 6am-3 pm (clinical)

Thursday: 8-11 am (theory at HEC)

They might completely change it for Spring 2014, but this is what Fall 2013 has been like. You don't actually report to your clinical site until about two months into the program. So for the first 8 weeks or so, your clinical days will be spent at the HEC.

I have HealthSouth in the days program. I'm not sure it will be offered as a day program clinical site in the Spring, though, because the day instructor who normally has a clinical group there is moving up to teaching Nursing IV.

So you only have two mornings that start at 6am?

Oh and nothing Friday?

Wow!! Thank you!! Do you have an instructor you recommend? Or do we not get to choose? Do you work too or are you just in school?

RNS2B_2013 would you please give me an example of your schedule for the evening class program. Hope all of you are doing great and loving it!!!

The instructor I have for Nursing 1 is moving up to teaching Nursing 4 in the Spring so I can't recommend her. We're also not supposed to mention specific names on this forum. The administration has changed how registration works for Nursing 2-4 in that they are now keeping your 12-person Nursing 1 clinical group together and placing the whole group in their next assignment - you don't get any choice. For example, my entire group from Nursing 1 is going to St. Pete General for Nursing 2. I would not have chosen that location if I was allowed to register myself. But it is what it is.

At orientation they are probably going to give you a sheet that lists all of the day classes and night classes, and then you will rank all the classes in order of your preference. At my orientation there were six day and three night classes. Then, based on your class ranking from the application process, they will slot students into clinical groups based on their ranked preferences. So if you were highly ranked during the application (high GPA, all prereqs) you're more likely to get your #1 choice than if you got in as an alternate.

I work part time, but it's only 10 hours a week. If I have a test coming up I work even less than that. I know several people who work more and are doing well. But if you don't HAVE to work, I would focus solely on school. There is a lot of work, and the tests are not easy - it's not enough to memorize information. You have to memorize facts AND know how to apply them to critical thinking situations. I'm constantly amazed by my classmates who go to school, work 30 hours a week, and have kids - I don't think I could manage all that!

Hey Icujnel, sorry for the delay. Its bee a little crazy :-0

the night schedule has been:

Mon: 3-5 on campus

Tues/Wed: 2-11 clinicals

Thurs: 3-6 on campus.

But like highwaygirl said, at least for level 1, the first 8 weeks you wont go to clinicals, you'll be in class.

So far so good. Definitely liking it and looking forward to finish the semester :-)

Hello,

I just received my schedule for spring. My clinical rotation is at healthsouth. Could someone who has that clinical site describe what it's like, what you do, and what your schedule is like, please?

Oh sorry one more question, when you are in class for clinicals for the first 8 weeks are you actually in class for 10 hours? Just trying to get mentally prepared, thank you in advance for any info:)
